Thanks to AnkerDirect, and especially the Soundcore Support Team, I was able to get in touch with an extremely helpful consultant, Cherry, and was able to obtain a functional replacement for the faulty speaker. The replacement works fine and my girlfriend is extremely pleased with the gift! The sound quality is excellent, and it looks great on her study desk.
Thanks again AnkerDirect!

Be advised, you need a smartphone and the Soundcore app to do almost anything with this clock (even to set an alarm) - but the plus side is there is (likely) more functionality (e.g. a slew of 'white noise' sounds), plus customization options. As for my issues with it: first, and most importantly, even tho the display auto dims at night, it simply does not dim enough (as so many others have said). You can enable 'night mode' to turn the display off for a customizable time period but that's not an ideal solution. Further, night mode does not turn off the blue 'charging' light when in use, and that one blue light alone can light up my whole bed. Also, when it's in night mode, you can supposedly touch any of the function 'buttons' along the bottom edge to turn the display back on briefly (not something I want to fumble around with when I'm half asleep), but the first time I did that the radio turned on, and the 2nd time it somehow started streaming (and BLARING) music from my iphone (which I had never even tried doing previously).
So, at night I currently have the display turned off and am charging my phone elsewhere (to avoid the blue charging light) - which basically defeats the entire purpose of this NOT inexpensive item. However, given what others have said about Anker's supposedly great customer service, I'm keeping it for the moment, with the hope they are paying attention to our comments and will be fixing these relatively simple issues with some updates very soon. Even with it's faults, it is better than any other similar items available.
As with many and their Anker soundcore devices, the audio quality and app function wonderfully.
that said there's a massive fatal flaw with this device that simply is unacceptable to me.
The colon flashes constantly, there is no way to stop the colon from flashing as I've spoken to multiple support representatives. so if you have your alarm clock as I believe many do next to your bed where you go to sleep you're going to have two flashing white lights.... A constantly flashing white lights where you're trying to sleep in darkness presumably.
Why they think this is a good idea, nobody knows.
hopefully this will be resolved one day but until then I'm going to have to return this product, and will not be able to recommend it to anyone.
The person I bought this for is complaining about the brightness of the clock display, as well as the bright blue LED that lights up the room when charging a phone. Note that the clock display can be dimmed, which is great, but even at the lowest setting it's too bright. With the blue LED charging light, there is no dimming this LED, and we've resorted to putting a towel over the clock (which somewhat defeats the purpose of having a clock). Sound quality is reasonable (compared to other similarly sized portable speakers, but better than a typical clock radio). Using a phone app to connect to the device is also a plus, as it's easier to change settings this way in our opinion. However, another quirk seems to be the difficulty is "snoozing" the alarm, and the alarm doesn't seem to come back after the snooze period.
In summary, it's a cool idea and looks well made. Unfortunately, there's some key quirks, and the gift recipient is trying to decide whether to keep this or not. Needing to leave a towel over the display seems unfortunate, especially for a clock that costs over $100. We're going to try other options, such as post-it notes over the blue LED, etc. The point is, it may be a better idea to wait for version 2 of this device, which I suspect Anker will greatly improve.
Only thing I'd like to see is for it to be in black rather than white and also for the clock to have one lower dimmer setting as it's still a bit too bright for me when sleeping. However, the ability for the display to automatically turn on and off makes up for it.
Buy it - you'll love it.
Update: After seeing that I wasn't completely satisfied, Anker reached out to me to find out what they could do to improve the product. I told them it was too bright and they immediately began working on fixing that problem. Today I received not one but TWO replacements. The brightness is now 100% fixed and I couldn't be happier with the product. Anker continues to show that they have the best customer service in the business and I will continue to buy their products.
Update: I've been using this product for a while now and am happy to report that there are no problems whatsoever! My only gripe is that they released a black version that I would much rather have that was not available at my date of purchase.
I love the idea of this clock/charger all in one, but it needs some improvements.
1. The light is ridiculously bright, even on the lowest setting. I hope there is a way, in a future version of the app, to make this lower. I don't want to turn the clock off, because that defeats the purpose.
2. App should allow pandora for alarms - it is a bluetooth speaker, after all
Now there have been fixes for other clocks like the iHome clock that have displays that are too bright, but none I can find for this one. I too, am hoping Anker will release a firmware update that will resolve these issues.
For now, I covered up the blue charging light by placing black electrical tape on the grill. I also placed tape over the flashing colon, then hastily cut a piece of paper to cover the whole grill to reduce the dimness enough for sleeping.
(Yes I know how sloppy the cutting is, I hope someone comes up with a template or something.
Otherwise I do love this clock.
Speaker is nice quality. Operation is a little unusual. Plan on downloading yet another proprietary app to set things like alarms. You also have to be connected to via Bluetooth Phone/Media audio to use it so plan on your calls being hijacked if you're with your phone in the next room.
Wireless charging, part of what lured me in, works but my phone is so hot in the morning I fear it might be doing some damage. I have a case but I also have wireless chargers in my car and at work and the phone never gets hot to the touch.
After 4 months with this, still call it 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Brightness got a little better after the 0.6 firmware update, but still too bright. I still find myself wishing Anker had opted for red or green LEDs like older plain alarm clocks tend to use. I know I could turn off the display, but I like being able to look at it in the middle of the night when I pop awake sometimes.
Despite that, I do manage to sleep just fine. I just think it's a minor design/engineering fail.
I also sometimes have to deal with annoyance of the Wakey deciding it needs to flash "No Alarm" or something like that for no reason I can figure out.
Looking forward to further firmware updates.

This is really a 3.5 star rating rounded up because we can't do half stars here, I don't think.
I've only had it for one night so far, and it works as advertised, which is a major plus. This is not my first Qi-equipped alarm clock - if this one has better longevity that my previous ones, I'll be very happy. It's an Anker product, so I have hope. Especially for a product costing $100.
I agree with other reviewers about the brightness of the blue wireless charging led and the clock numbers. It would be nice to be able to change the blue to red (figure that's not possible) or disable it completely (future firmware RFE). It would also be nice to make the clock numbers dim more at night. It didn't really bother me last night, but compared to my wife's "regular" alarm clock with green numbers, it's *really* bright. I don't know why companies think white is a good color for alarm clock numbers. All of that is one star off.
I also would deduct a half star for having to set the time via a bluetooth-connected app on my phone/tablet. That's just silly IMO.
I do very much like that I can plug my other Qi charging stand for my phone into the Wakey (I charge my tablet on the Wakey) and cut down on the things plugged into the power strip. It's very helpful.
