"I'm Eddie Hall, an alpha male who swears a lot and headbutts people! I'm very strong! I do mad things that are so good other people won't think of them because they're not Eddie Hall! I also allowed my ghost writer to simply copy down my stream of consciousness writing and just add a few exclamation marks!"
Seriously, even in the realm of sports biographies, this is a poor effort. Eddie comes across as a bit of a prick, which is a shame because when he came to my gym everyone thought he was a good bloke. It's just a really badly-written book with little interesting content. Better to employ a more competent ghost writer who can edit speech into text and also possibly ask some more searching questions.

Who wants to be a strongman?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 April 2018Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoy this book. I always enjoy books where I feel the author is being fully honest about their experiences and stories wart and all I am told it is called.
I think every man in the world a one point in their/our lives though we were or could quite easily become the strongest man in the world. In this book Eddie Hall tell us exactly what it takes. There is no magic formula, it is physical and mental toughness bordering on torture. Then there is the sacrifice. This burden is not carried alone but must be shared by friends and family members alike. There is also a big difference between strength and health.
The book covers Eddie early and family life and of course his journey to becoming the strongest man in the world. The road is not easy. It takes someone like Eddie’s do or (literally) die attitude to make it happen. Eddie calmly take about injuries and situations that probably would have killed most people. The only thing that is not covered in this book is specific training me. Eddie vaguely says the number of hour he spends in the gym. but not specific of the exercise. The story is more about Eddie life experiences and the sacrifices along the way.
A great story and hard earned achievements and success. Many of which almost cost Eddie his life. A great story but Eddie is not shy talking about cost to himself and his family. A great story as long as you don’t mind a decent sprinkling of f-bombs, though that is just Eddie’s personally and speech so it adds authenticity.

For some reason I was left a bit disappointed by this autobiography of Eddie Hall. I am a huge fan of WSM and was so proud when Eddie brought the title back to the UK, yet this is lacking in a couple of ways.
This book tells the story of his childhood, youth competitive swimming and Worlds Strongest Man competitions. As he is still a relatively young man and he has been so dedicated to his training there is not a lot to tell and the first part did drag a little. Sadly he came across as a little immature (as we all can be in our youth) but I was disappointed to see how he seemed to revel in some of his violent behaviours.
My main frustration was although he hints at it a lot, he never actually covers the final WSM competition where he won the title. He was unable to discuss it for contractual reasons as the TV final hadn't been aired when this was published, but surely it would've been better to delay publication and tell the full story. I would've loved to read his take on the competition, how he felt, how he trained, his opinion on Thors complaints during the competition and just finish the book on the high that Eddie deserved.
If this book has now been updated and that competition has been covered then you may not feel the same frustrations, but in the book I had I felt like I read the story of Eddie's rise, but missed out on him standing on the peak. A strange and deflating way to finish a book.

I bought this for my son as an extra gift on his 21st Birthday. He competed it in a day, laughing and relaying tales from it the whole way through. Eddie "The Beast" hall tells you about his childhood, his family and the events that lead him to the title of World's Strongest Man, his lifetime ambition, after a youth as an all-England swimmer. No ordinary competitor; Eddie's parents used to sit in the aisles when he won, to make a quick getaway, fully expecting antics like stepping onto the podium in a bathrobe to reveal he was wearing his female colleagues spare costume, and, annoyed at Olympic trainers, doing a "swim by" completely naked. Read this book, then follow his youtube channel and enjoy the hilarious, foul-mouthed friendship with his Power Lifting and Strongman buddies. This guy is an old-fashioned English Working Class hero. An inspiration. Buy this book. I really want to meet the guy to get him to sign ours. Love it to bits.

What a story from a very strong minded person. His story makes you think of the sacrifices people have to make to become the worlds best. Eye popping but please do not pat him on his back while he is training. You are liable to get a slap. Great read. Cannot say how much I enjoyed this.
