I bought two of these for my rather large pond and saw no difference. I put one in by the water fall like it said and waited days to see a difference. I assumed maybe I didn't have enough for the volume of water in my very large pond. I ran to the store to purchase more as I couldn't wait for another one to ship to me. I put it in on the opposite side of the pond and not only did it do nothing but it instantly sunk to the bottom. It hasn't hurt my fish which is good but I also feel like I just took cash and threw it into my pond. I would try something else.
I bought this & put in a stock tank that we have 2 goldfish in. It was in there for about 2 weeks, the water isn't any clearer & now we have 1 dead fish. I took it out. Not really positive it was the straw but the fish have been fine & nothing else has changed.
They would float for a couple days but would eventually succumb to my fountain and sink to the bottom. I used mine for two months and they didn't quell the algae that exploded in my pond (even with chemical help). There were so many good reviews I was totally disappointed.
Very expensive for what you get! A little bit of barley straw wrapped into a plastic netting. Calling it "Bales" is very overdoing it, they are about 10 inches long and have a diameter of about 4 inches. I would call this a small roll of straw but definately not a bale! I don't even know if they work because the algae growth in my pond did not show any difference. They might work if I would cover my entire pond with them, but any cover would do that!
I did not like this product, it takes on a putrid odor after a few days. I would switch out the bales to let dry some to eliminate the foul odor. I couldn't take the odor any more, I removed the bale and threw it away. I cannot say that it helped to clear my 50 gallon above ground pond either. The company graciously returned my full purchase price.
I am disappointed in the results inmy pond. I have used the two small bails in the waterfall box and gotten great algae control, so decided to buy one big nail instead of two small. This bail decomposed very rapidly and algae returned. I'm sticking to the two small bails of barley straw.
