Calibrated to an accuracy of +/ 4%, the TEKTON 3/8 in. Drive Click Torque Wrench lets you work with confidence, eliminating guessing and the common tendency to overtighten fasteners. Correctly tightening fasteners to a vehicle or equipment manufacturer's torque specifications ensures parts are properly secured without being damaged. Simple and easy to use, this wrench has a reversible ratcheting head that drives fasteners in both directions and measures torque in the clockwise direction. To measure torque, set the desired value on the handle scale (foot pounds or Newton meters) and begin tightening the fastener. When the preset torque value is reached, a reliable mechanical operation inside the handle produces a click you can hear and feel, alerting you to stop applying force. Built for consistent performance and years of dependable service, the mechanical design doesn't need batteries, and the all steel construction has no plastic parts to break or wear out. IMPORTANT: This wrench is shipped recalibrated and ready to use. To help maintain calibration, store at its lowest setting of 10 ft.lb./13.6 Nm when not in use. Be sure to read and understand the operator's manual, including all safety information, before first use. Specifications: Range - ft.-lb.: 10-80 ft.-lb. Range - Nm: 13.6-108.5 NM Increment: 1 ft.-lb. the wrench only failed at the 10 ft/lb mark but was well within the limits advertised.I would recommend this wrench but once you get it test it for accuracy first as my first wrench I got from Tekton 1/2 was more then 10% out. This Torque wrench also ratchets nicely and didn't arrive without any cosmetic damage like the other 2.
I went to parts stores in my area and all of them are just cheap junk that will break easily with a few uses. I found a few other brands on Amazon but something also kept referring me back to this one, i really didn't know what i wanted and was reading the positive reviews. I personally wanted a Snap-on digital torque wrench but that is WAY out of my budget (maybe in the future when i win the lottery.) I decided to purchase this one, and arrived quick unsuspectingly. I had a job at home that i actually needed it before i put it to use at my job so i thought i would test it out before hand. The results are impressive, now i don't know how precise it actually is (could be +/- 4 degrees off like it says or even more for all i know.) The tool arrived in nice shape unlike other review have stated where it was "used', it came in a bag and wrapped up nice and it a nice box so i believe it wasn't used.
The torque wrench isn't that long which i find it great because it's not like your holding a large breaker bar, it is comfortable to hold and isn't long. The handle has knurled grip which is comfortable to hold and doesn't hurt your hand while using unlike some other models that have don't have that. My previous 3/8 torque wrench had a lock built into the handle assembly which was a easy quick change of a setting and locked upon releasing. This one doesn't do that which is disappointing but what can you do (it is what it is for the people that hate that saying.) The lock is a screw type, so you unscrew it then rotate to find the desired setting then screw the lock until it's tight. It does become a pain in the a** if you use it quite often. In addition, the price is quite reasonable for a 3/8 torque wrench. I know these can get up into the hundreds of dollars which can get expensive especially for me. I like good quality and i rather spend a little more to get better but do you think you are going to get better than this? I don't personally think so, this is just the right price for this. This isn't superior quality but it is decent quality. Accuracy i cannot comment on too much because i am not really sure but i think the accuracy is quite bang on in my opinion. You can ask for much more, it even comes in a convenient durable case to protect it. I completely understand this is precision instrument and the more expensive you go the better you get, TRUE but this can do everything a Snap-on can. Don't believe me, go to google and type in Snap-on then search this one *3/8" Drive Adjustable Fixed-Ratchet Click Type Torque Wrench (20–100 ft-lb)* (Unfortunately i am unable to include the link but you can do so if you want.) Now if you did, you may find that the accuracy is different? No! It is exact same accuracy (+/- 4 degrees) with some minor differences, I do not see much difference if you ask me. Therefore for 5 times the price you are getting a little better quality and the same rugged plastic case (most like a different color other than red which this one is. This quite on obvious decision in my mind because at the end of the day you can take the left over money you saved and buy more tools (or beer) which ever you prefer.
I have been using this for roughly three weeks now and i can say that this is a very good torque wrench, i have noticed that the accuracy is very good. I have other technicians compare it and some of theirs go way past the torque spec which is over torquing. I can say this is differently a good buy and well worth the money and if this does decide to go, i can just go buy another one. This is a fantastic product and even better than my old one. I would HIGHLY recommend this torque wrench, if you stilling deciding. STOP because you have found one!
I can’t speak to the durability of the wrench for frequent use, but more an occasional backyard mechanic like me it’s perfect.
It comes with a sturdy case and clear instructions.
My only gripe is that the lower scale is in lb/ft only and this can make it a little tricky to dial in the correct Nm setting.
Would not recommend.
