I don't leave a lot of reviews but this product has caused me enough frustration that I felt it necessary. The Red and Black wires are connected, which make it easier to run through the project. My issue is when you need to split the two wires for a connection or need a single strand. The rubber housing is very cheap and even if you start a split with a knife and then pull to separate the two colors the housing tears away and exposes the wire. I have done this same process with another brand bought at a brick and mortar years ago without issue. Tried spitting the wire completely with a Stanley knife and it is difficult to follow the split because the red and black color of the housing do not follow directly with the wire itself.
We used this to wire some new lights on our trailer and when we separated the wires, the insulation came off one side. Typically, the black side would pull part of the red insulation off leaving wire exposed. I had to cut a good bit of the wire off in order to make good connections. It feels good, looks good but the insulation issue for me is huge.
The first 1/3 of the spool did fine, but then when I was trying to split the black and red, the red would peel too much and expose the wire. Tried using a blade...gently pulling...everything and nothing worked. Wire seemed OK, but unless you are going run the full spool and not use for multiple project/wiring, pass on this.
This isn't very good. You have to be EXTREMELY careful when splitting the red and black, or else the insulation splits and your left with bare wire showing. And it always happened to the red side, leaving the positive exposed and at risk of short. I had to redo several runs leading to excessive waste.
Using this to rewire lights and other low amperage lights on a Power Wheels Jeep. We added several LED lights to improve the look of the Jeep in the dark for a granddaughter. With the plastic body every light must have both positive and negative wires run to them. You can't use a common ground found on some metal frame/body vehicles.
Overall, it worked for my application (power for LED strips) however the insulation tore down the wire when separating the 2 conductors. Heat shrink and plastidip fixed it. This may have been a one off manufacturing issue. I will not buy again.
This wire does not separate well. When separating the two strands apart the sheathing on one would split and expose the copper. Even if you carefully split it apart , It will still expose the bare copper core. Potential Fire Hazard ! I would not recommend this product.
