A Russian billionaire and his state of the art yacht. His beautiful and sexy supermodel girlfriend. And five dynamic, powerful and famous couples invited on the yacht's maiden voyage.
A senator and his lovely but unhappy wife. A very attractive movie star and his needy ex-waitress girlfriend. A famous black footballer and his interior designer wife. A male Latin singing sensation and his older English boyfriend. And a maverick writer with his Asian journalist female friend.
Could this be the trip of a lifetime? Or a trip from hell?
Whatever happens on the high seas doesn't necessarily stay there.
The Power Trip - take it if you dare.

Not one of Jackie's best

I thought I'd read this after seeing a 5 star review in my local paper by a (usually) trusted critic. I struggled to get into it until the actual trip, as there were so many characters and the plot didn't seem to be going anywhere fast. I was going to give up on it but am glad I finished it, although its nowhere near as good as Jackie's much earlier work, eg Lucky.
It's mostly a sex romp with a bit of intrigue thrown in for good measure, which is Jackie's trademark, but this one fails to hit the spot, no pun intended! Her earlier works were really good, fast paced and with an air of mystery about them. How times change; and I realise now why I stopped reading her books years ago.
I think this would be okay for a holiday read but that's about all.

Jackie! When do they get on the boat??

I last read jackie Collins when I was 15 and enjoyed it very much. Having read Malcolm Gladwell's Blink recently (which I did like!), I thought I should kind of let loose and read something 'fun' and entertaining. I read about a third in one day expecting the story to kick off any second, and it just never happened. I'm afraid I gave up, the characters sounded interesting but they never got further than their home turf, and the boat trip promised still hadn't happened. Maybe something fantastic happens in the remaining two thirds, but I doubt it'd be enough to sway my opinion I'm afraid. Saddest of all...I'm definitely not 15 anymore. Maybe one for jackie's die-hards.

too many characters , and a bonk too many

Read it in a day, and eliminating the confusion of having so many characters and secondary plots, one might from that aspect, gather -it's an easy and solid holiday read. Storyline and final sagas seemed a bit predictable; but, ITS 15 years since I risked reading JC 's offerings and all that seems to have changed is more involvement for homosexuals, an overindulgence in oral sex and a whole bunch of characters with proclivity for 'a quickie' , sometimes , in the most absurd of situations !
PS She should sponsor a mouthwash !

The worst Jackie Collins book ever - and I have read them all.

Absolute tosh. And not in a good trashy way. Lazily written with characters popping up all the time who end up pivotal to the plot. If you like Hollywood Wives and Chances, then do not buy this. Jackie Collins should never have allowed this to go to print.

Escapism at it's best

I love a bit of Jackie Collins every now and then to escape from everyday life and provide some light relief after reading books with a heavier subject matter. This has quite a large cast of characters, but I found it quite easy to remember who was who as they are well described (albeit slightly stereotyped and often seemingly based on famous people). You know from the start that something bad is going to happen to one of the characters, but the twists and turns keep you guessing right up to the end.
