'Their Lost Daughters' is my first introduction to Joy Ellis and I will be reading more from her. This is a true page turner. Although it is book two in the series, it worked well as a standalone but I am sorry that I didn’t read 'The Murderers Son' first, only because I enjoyed this one so much.
This is another great British crime thriller set in the East Anglian Fens, featuring police duo D.I. Rowan Jackson and his partner D.S. Marie Evans.
After a missing girl's body is washed up on the beach, Jackson & Evans are tasked with investigating it however they are immediately also allocated a cold case, (a young girl who went missing nearly eight years before). Having barely started their investigation, Jackson & Evans are then asked to assist a neighbouring division in the search for a missing teenager. As they reluctantly begin these enquiries, it soon becomes clear that this and their own new case are linked and involve an illegal drinking club where minors are plied with alcohol and drugs...
The plot had numerous twists and turns which kept me in suspense throughout. The final chapters reveal some totally unexpected surprises and a totally unexpected ending. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I love a good English murder mystery/ thriller and this is right up there with the best. The way that the stories within the novel all eventually linked were unraveled by the team was a pleasure to read. I couldn’t put it down, which was good because I had the audio book linked with the e-book.
The police team were believable and worked well with each other and were very likeable. I can see myself moving on to other books in the series.
I consider this to be a great find and I would recommend it to anyone who likes murder mysteries.

This is a gripping crime thriller with a twist that has you turning pages to see if your instincts are right. Inspector Jackman a seasoned policeman works tirelessly but never loses his cool. Marie his sidekick makes up for his lack of empathy and shrewdness but is a little too sensitive as I guess we women are. Wilkinson is the forensic pathologist, which I felt did not play a big enough part in the story considering all that was going on.
The missing girl – well that you will learn about - quite intriguing and very unexpected. Most of the investigations are hampered with blockages and problems, the ending will reveal the sleazy character involved in instigating the run around. A good book for teens to read with insight into fun parties.

An unusual and interesting offering. Having read all the Nikki Galena series to date, and the predecessor of this book, it is different in a number of ways, but still very much a “Fenland” story.
Perhaps a little stretch of the imagination for the story lines, but still an enjoyable book that I wanted to keep reading to find out “what happened” and that is the best part of any good book!

A story with disturbing crimes against teenage girls that developed with an amazing depth of characters and events. I found myself seeing the crime scenes in my mind with the detailed descriptions involving all the senses.
The narrator's telling of the story created a sense of drama, empathy, sadness, and just about all the other emotional responses which this story invoked as well as giving the characters their individuality allowing the listener to get to know them in the way the author no doubt intended.
I'm onto the next Jackman novel now, knowing it will be another brilliant offering from Joy Ellis.

I gave it a five star rating because the story gripped me and couldn't put it down from beginning to end. I did not expect the twist in the end. It was heart wrenchingly sad and makes you think the old debate about how does a psychopath came to be, were they born as they are or their upbringing shapes them as they are. It's a chilling story that made me love my son more.

Brilliant - with great characters & just when you think you've got it taped, another twist takes you down another path!

Joy Ellis is a master story teller, and having lived on the Festival makes these mysteries more real for me. I have enjoyed all of her books on the "Fen" series with DIi Nikki & her team but this series takes us to a new dimension of realistic crime fiction. Can't wait to read the rest of her books. A word of warning to new readers, however - these books are almost impossible to put down once you start reading them 😉

Been a while, having read a couple of other authors in between, but must say I enjoyed being back to read Joy Ellis' specific style.
Twist & turns as the characters were woven into the plot. As often with Joy the outcomes were totally unexpected. Made for an interesting read.

Excellent thriller

Having read all of the " Fen " books by Joy Ellis I was pretty sure I knew what to expect. This thriller definitely surpassed my expectations. It is the second in the Jackman / Ellis series and although still set in the Fens, the Detectives are portrayed quite differently to those in the Nikki Galena series. The detectives have their own problems too, but this just adds to the story line. The plot is quite current and of course it is full of twists and the ending unexpected. Really good read and I hope there will be more in this series.

A great read with plenty of action and lots of twists and turns. The main characters on the police force are a formidable force who work very well together. The final chapters reveal some totally unexpected surprises.

When I first started to read this book, I thought I would not enjoy it, but I was surprised, it started to hold my attention, I had just read a story by,Graham Masterton, but I should have waited a bit longer, as this was a completely different story, however, this story grows on you, and I will say, it is a must read.

After reading some of the feedback I couldn't wait to get started on this book and the beginning certainly didn't disappoint.
It's a book you get straight into and I was totally absorbed. The characters are real and mostly likeable especially the detectives.
Towards the middle of the book my interest was waning to be honest I was having problems keeping up with the characters and names involved, however as it had been good before I pushed on and finished it but the big ending twist I was hoping for didn't really happen.
