How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unraveling A string after three months (updated)

Bought a set of these in April 2020. The A string at around the D note started unraveling in July 2020. I'm beyond 30 day return policy and seller won't replace the string because he says life of the strings is only 2 to 3 months, depending on how often the instrument is played.
I understand about the sound of the string diminishing after 2 or 3 months, but I would not expect the string to unwind at the fingerboard. My daughter is only 11 years old with not much meat on her bones and plays about 30 minutes a day, so it's not hard core, heavy duty usage.
Unsatisfied with product and with seller experience.

Update 8/15/20: we brought the violin to the music store we bought it from, and they confirmed that the violin does have the signs of what typically happens with teens, and that is sweat from the fingers which tend to be more acidic than usual at this age. Other strings are also beginning to discolor, and the fingerboard has a white streak where the string touches it, also signs of sweaty fingers. Plan now is to wash hands with soap before playing. So I take back my review about the life of the string with apologies. I'm still debating whether to take back the review about the seller though, so TBD on that piece. Thanks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Would not get again

Bought this set of strings on recommendation from a reputable violinist. The E string broke while tightening slowly, with a tuner, before getting to the appropriate Hz for E to be in tune. D string was a much softer/warmer tone than the rest of the strings and did not match the others at all. Maybe made out of a different core?

My e string was shipped to me frayed a little at the top (opposite of the ball side). The e string also did not have a filter with it. A D and G were fine, just would have liked a different e string that wasn't frayed at the top.

Here is the deal, they sound nice but I recently had two strings brake. One right after another. It appears to be faulty construction around the ball end of the string. The ball just snapped off..........Twice!! Real bummer on $50 set of strings. We are in the process of exchanging them through Amazon customer service and will try them again. Words of advice..........tune these up very slowly. Like over the course of a day or two so they can really stretch. Otherwise, you may just snap off the ball end too. Seems to be these strings weakest link.

3.0 out of 5 stars Snapped "A"

I have played violin for 26 years and have used Dominant strings for years as well. I ve never bought them online before and I ve never had a problem with this brand. However, two days after replacing the A string, it snapped...right before a huge wedding rehearsal. I was not happy. Never had this happen before. I'm wondering if the string set had been in storage for a while, and could I get a replacement A?
