Thorlo socks are the best for running & general exercise. I’ve worn them for at least 10 years & will keep wearing them as long as they continue to be produced. Disappointed with short life span as after 5 months of daily use in rotation with 2 other pair holes developed under the forefoot.
I have bought Thorlo socks from Thorlo and amazon for a few years now. I have to agree with some of the reviews that were posted after using the socks for awhile before reviewing: The quality is not what it used to be. Like others have mentioned, I have had problems with the cuffs losing elasticity and also problems with wear (on this model and others I have bought recently). One pair arrived from my amazon order and was obviously defective before I even tried them on (amazon made it right--love amazon cust. svc). My older Thorlo socks have been worn and washed for years in the same washing machine and are still in great shape. I use a variety of their socks for hiking, working out, running (5-10mi) and everyday wear. Years ago when I discovered Thorlo socks I essentially replaced all my socks with a Thorlo version and until recently have never regretted the huge difference in price from "normal" socks. I don't have any knowledge about textiles but the brand new socks that I received ( from thorlo and from amazon) both seem to have the same great padding that I have come to love and appreciate but the material overall seems (to my amateur eye) to be thinner and of lower quality than before. It's really a shame because I used to be happy to pay the high price for the socks because of the quality..... High price but good value over the long run. The 6 pair I bought this year (multiple styles/length) will be the last ones I buy until I start to see evidence that Thorlo has learned that their customers are people who are willing to pay high prices for quality. I bought too many pair this year from Thorlo, Amazon and other authorized retailers for my recent experience to be a fluke or bad batch. Next time I order socks I will search amazon to see if I can find a different company that makes similar padded socks and give them a try. Reviews are always subjective so my suggestion is to get one pair and try them out. They will feel awesome when they are new but wear them for a month or two and if you have a better experience than I did, THEN order more. If you have the same experience as me, you will have saved some money. Hope this helps.
When you lower the quality of a once great product you will end up loosing customers and going out of business. I have worn Thorlos socks for over fifteen years and couldn't believe some of the reviews I was reading about how the quality tumbled down from previous years. I believe them now. This is not the same quality as in years gone by. The top of the sock has had the elastic portion cut in half. You can also feel the overall thickness of the sock has been reduced. I have bought my last pair of Thorns. They cut cost and quality, I cut them.
