You must buy the "right" size. I've always liked this shoe for its moderate price and and relatively light weight. Bought several pairs in this style over time from a local brick and mortar specialty store and every time the sales person fitted me for my purchase. I'd have to convince myself that there'd be some short period of discomfort while the shoes broke in. Wrong. I recently instead purchased these Timberland Pro Tiitan oxfords from a Amazon marketplace vendor and I went size up and to the widest available XW (3e) width. Zero break in time. I have since purchased another pair of these same work shoes from Amazon.com direct and am thrilled with the discomfort-free results. I work and walk/run/climb in an industrial environment that varies from gravel to concrete to steel and one draw back to the comfort of these work shoes is durability. I can cover from 3 to 9 miles a day in these shoes and the soft soles reflect the wear and tear. My goal is zero-pain comfort. If I have to buy new work shoes every 3-6 months because I kill the outsoles it's worth it.

Way too narrow

I am a 10.5W and first tried the 10.5XW and it was too narrow. I then ordered the 11XW and it was snug but thought that after 3 weeks of wearing 12 hours per day that it would loosen up. Nope! Still too tight and now my feet are seriously hurting. Fortunately, I saved my 3year old red wing shoes and will have to go back to them. I’m out $120 and will never buy any Timberland products again...ever! Their shoe designers need to follow standard sizing...that’s why they call it “ standard sizing”

Felt great from the git-go. Nice leather. Flexible. Feels broken-in. The sole seems durable...but I would like it lighter. Wish it was available without the toe guard. Still, appears to be a good bang for the buck. Like their Pro line. Yes, it’s more money, but worth it.

I wear these shoes to work 10 hours a day in a glass factory. They are very comfortable, strong and never hurt my very wide feet. I tried on many pairs of shoes but could not find anything in any store that would work for me. They were just all too narrow. I take a 4 E width, but these 3 E size 11's work just fine. Amazon is the only place that I could find these shoes. I couldn't even find them on the shoe brand website in this size. Only at Amazon. Go figure. Also, Amazon has an awesome return policy as I tried other styles that did not work and sent them back and Amazon promptly issued me a refund. I shop for almost everything at Amazon now. I belong to Amazon Prime and get 2 day free shipping. Can' t beat it!

The extra wide size seems to fit me out of the box. Wide sizes vary from Mfr. to Mfr. and sometimes I find myself swimming in some while others are just right. They appeared to be more of a dress shoe from the pictures, but they are actually serious work shoes and a little too bulky and heavy for what I wanted. They will work as I'm not always required to wear them.

I work 12 hour days. The boots worked ok for a couple days but my feet are fatigued after using these boots for a week. I have soars developing where the arch support should be. Same old garbage. I have to wonder if these products are tested at all in a real world application.
