Many of the areas of the book become even more interesting with the perspective of time. Specifically there is a large discussion on how ToysRUs is the market leader, with 25% of industry sales and "everyone assumes it will always be this way". Though it has become apparent since 2000 that ToysRUs no longer wields the same power the economics of the industry, which is heavily loaded toward fourth quarter sales, and the pressures of development, kids getting older faster and always striving for innovation, have not changed. The book may look at some outdated items, with iPhone replacing gameboys as the new tech toys, but its overview of the american toy industry as a whole still provides great background for any interested in getting into the business of play.
Inventors, manufacturers, and industry professional are wise to learn from the concept in Toyland in order to avoid suffering the same fate (bankruptcies, IP lawsuits, general headache)
