This player is easy to use, fairly sturdy - given the way she handles things and has a screen that is big enough for her to see her videos. We can rotate the screen (or close it over the controls) so that she doesn't accidently press the buttons to stop or change settings. It fits on the headrest in both our vehicles and has a remote so we don't have to drag it out of the holder while underway. Volume is loud enough for a personal DVD player. Battery life is good, 4 or more hours.
She is not easy on DVD players (or TVs for that matter). Honestly, when I bought this one, I did not expect it to last more than a couple of weeks at best. . She drags it from room to room to room as she moves about during the day. When she gets irritated/upset, she tends to tip things (like TVs) over or drop something portable behind a bed or a couch - just so the world knows just how irritated she is, I think. Of course, the DVD player has had its turn as the item dropped when we aren't quick enough to recognize her intent. The screen has finally given out (after some pretty rough bounces off a wall behind the couch here).
In spite of the recent demise of her first player (I have already ordered a new one - same model), I would recommend this for anyone with more "typical" children or even one like mine, It would help to ensure that the player is closed before any "anticipated "rough handling.
That all changed after using it.
The picture is crystal clear.
Based on the movie you are watching (old or new) the coloring is absolutely perfect.
The sound is incredible.
I have trouble sleeping so I watch a movie in the middle of the night and the volume is on 1 or 2 and it is perfectly clear.
Battery life is great.
Headset option is great.
The remote control is very easy to use.
The entire DVD/CD player is very user friendly.
I bought 3 of these DVD/CD players.
One for me, my Dad and my brother.
We all love them.
You will not be disappointed in purchasing this DVD/CD Player.
Deserves 5 Stars!!!!!
Only issue I have is with the canvas holder for hanging over the back of the front seat. The style of the holder was different for each unit. One didn't fit the DVD player correctly and it was hard making it hang correctly (had to do some modifications), wish I would have had time to either buy a holder that fit, or to return the one unit with the holder that was made for another style DVD player.. If you buy this unit, be prepared to buy a holder that fits.
But the sound and picture quality have been great. I love that you can charge them up or have them connected to a power source. One of our kids even spilled a whole can of root beer on his while it was going and it didn’t break.
The UEME player is light. It feels "thinner" and more flimsy than did the Sony, which was heavier and very solid. Upon lifting it out of its package, I had the immediate impression that this player would need to be coddled if I expected it to have a lifespan of more than a few months. The controls also had a bit of a cheap feel to them and seemed to be more delicate. Still, I figured that I could make them last with some ginger treatment.
The biggest disappointment lies with the sound. Volume is adjustable from "0" to "20". At "20", the sound volume from the UEME's speakers is loud enough to be heard well in a quiet room. On the Sony, this occurred at about midrange in the audio volume adjustment scale, and maximum volume was truly too loud for most normal listening environments. I thought that earbuds might improve the situation with the UEME. They did provide ample sound isolation, but volume was not increased. Even with earbuds, maximum volume did not produce excessive sound levels. Interestingly, when I dialed the audio volume back to "10", the level did not change that significantly from what it was at "20". With nothing else going on in the room, I found that I could comfortably listen to a DVD at the "10" setting.
The screen has a narrow angle of view. On axis with the face of the screen, and when it is tilted correctly, the picture is sharp enough; but, it seems to have a touch too much contrast. Blacks are a bit too black and shadows lose detail. Tilting the screen forward tends to wash out the picture. Tilt it back, and the picture quickly disappears. Likewise, off axis, the screen soon disappears into a gray fog. By contrast, the Sony's screen was lush and saturated and had good contrast between blacks and grays. It also had a much wider acceptable viewing angle.
Overall, the controls are well laid out and work OK, although I don't know how long the pop-up lid will last. It feels super light and delicate. I've decided that placing a finger just above it as I open it will help to dampen the force at which it opens, and possibly help it to last longer. The last thing that might need mentioning is that the laser pickup is completely exposed and slides back and forth in a huge, open slot. Drop something heavy or spill something on it, and its days are over. I have not tried to use the remote yet, so I cannot comment on that.
Yeah, this player costs only $69, and it's probably worth that. If you are like me and pamper your electronics, it will likely serve its purpose, last awhile and deliver adequate performance. If you're ham fisted, tend to throw things around and are generally destructive, probably not so much...
When the unit is folded up like when it's on the back of a headrest in a car the remote receiving area is on the top right BEHIND the screen so you have to reach around and above with the remote just to make it work to change inputs, volume etc. Since the screen is folded you cannot access the controls on the unit itself so contorting your hands is the only way to go around doing it. That's just a dumb design choice and something to consider.
I find the unit much more useful when it's operating off of SD card. It can utilize an up to 32g SD card. It is pretty picky on the screen resolution and I had to tinker back and forth with different software to resize and recode videos into .avi format at the proper resolution to actually fill the screen out and get it to play with video. Once you figure that out though it's a lot better than having to change DVD's because when it's in the headrest mount you cannot change dvd's without taking the whole thing out of there. That isn't something you're going to do while driving. The SD card allows for enough content to be able to be played without the need to switch things out.
I don't like how the SD card sticks out though. I feel that it should click in but it doesnt. It feels like maybe 10-15% of the card is in the device while the rest is sticking out with little actually holding it in it. I feel like it could fall out and get lost or broken.
That being said it's relatively inexpensive for what it does. If you have a large collection of DVD content that isn't digitized to put on tablets then this is very handy. The kids really liked it and it gave life to a lot of old DVD titles we haven't really watched since we started just streaming content in more recent years. Just know about these issues and make sure it's something you're willing to deal with.
It seems like this design is a standard one that most of the other portable dvd players operate off of. Take that into consideration when shopping this brand or others. If you see the same button layout on a different brand it's probably the same actual unit but with a different brand. The IR receiver and inability to change dvd's while in a headrest will still apply.
