They are small and ultra sharp and easy on the hand. With the small, sharp tips, you can be very precise like on floribunda roses so you don't disturb new buds. The only draw back I've found, because they are so pointed and sharp, is not having a sheath or holster included. Don't even think about putting them in your pocket. Put 2 holes in my shorts already. I looked around and found my trusty Felco holster. It's heavy leather and provides excellent protection from stabbing myself. With a holster you don't loose sight of them either. Altogether these pruners seem the ideal choice for pruning flowers and small branches or even Bonsai. It's a small thing to get excited about, but I love these pruners.
Every gardener has probably gone through more pruners than they can remember.
Some break before their time.
Some are so bad you wish they would break & give you an excuse to get a different pair.
The Ultra Snip 6.7 inch may very well be the last set of pruners I will ever have to buy,
unless someone takes them.
This is the best pair of pruners I have ever had in my hands & my hands are size XXL.
I have had many big name pruners that I couldnt wait to get rid of.
Big name brands are not always great products.
I dont know anything about the Ultra Snip maker.
Who they are, where they are, etc & I dont care; cause it makes no difference to the product.
I use these many times every day.
They are the most comfortable pair I have ever used & there were many pairs before them.
I'm guessing it has to do with the grip ending next to the pivot point, unlike most where the pivot is an inch or more beyond your hand.
The grip itself is very comfortable; but I think the leverage with the pivot set deeper in your hand makes them such good smooth cutters.
My wife likes a pair of coronas I had, because they strip rose thorns.
I hated that pair of pruners; because they were very hard & uncomfortable to use.
So theres something for everyone.
She doesnt use the coronas most of the day every day, but I do use the Ultra Snips that way.
If your not happy with the pruners you've had or are using now,
I suggest you try a pair of the Ultra Snips.
Like me you just might find the last pair you'll ever buy,
unless of course someone takes them.
I bought this because I was tired of deadheading flowers by decapitating it with my fingers (and sometimes inadvertently damaging the stem or other plant parts)---after using it outside, I bought a 2nd one for inside for those house plants that have brown parts or whatever that you want to trim off, or for minor pruning of things like ficus trees.
I did a fair amount of research before buying---I wanted something compact, something that had a blade-close mechanism that was NOT that irritating little loop in the back, and I needed something with good quality sharp stainless steel blades (for this unit, it looks good, but the jury on long-term durability is still out----but if I have issues with the blades rusting even when protected, or doing anything else bad, I'll update this review).
As of now, about a month or so after purchase, I'm impressed--the little clipper is nicely balanced, the blades seem sharp, the open/close mechanism is easy to use, and the rubber-coated hand grips make it feel stable in your hand. It would be nice if there were a slightly larger version (longer snips, slightly bigger hand grip) for increased accessibility to interior plant parts and for increased comfort, but I'm still pretty happy with the current version. Will update the review if I run into any negatives over the coming months...
These gardenite snips are nicely made and have a lock that remains open or closed without sliding back and forth.
I think the price/quality combination is pretty unbeatable. They cut flower stems very clean which is important to me as I don't want the remaining plant to be damaged more than it has to be.
I highly recommend that you purchase a holster so that you can have them clipped to your pocket or belt for added convenience.
Sharp, stainless steel blades are just the right combination of narrow (for getting into small twigs) and strength for cutting those thicker dead twigs without damaging the pruners. 5/15" max diameter dead twig cutting.
I definitely am happy with them and give Five Stars for the quality at this price. I endorse them without reservation.
You know how dull scissors sometimes squish whatever you're trying to cut between the blades instead of actually cutting it? I'm already dealing with that.
It's sad really. Love it otherwise. Compact, but not difficult to hold/use. Comfortable. Had high hopes after reading the reviews.
Unfortunately, I can't recommend it. Not going to give it more than 1 star since it's failing at it's primary function. 🙁
I was a little concerned that the extra weight may cause hand fatigue during a long trimming session, but did not turn out to be an issue.
Although I use these for fairly delicate trimming I am not afraid to tackle fairly thick stems.
These have earned their place in my tool kit.
There is one major complaint I have. There is no sheath available from the manufacturer. Sure, I could buy a sheath that’s made for a different pair of shears, or even modify a sheath I already own from other shears; however, purchasing a sheath that’s more expensive than the shears is hard to justify, and modifying my existing sheath has resulted in many drops onto concrete and bending the tip of one of the blades. Is it really too much to ask for a sheath from the manufacturer so they can be easily carried around without stabbing holes in pockets or falling to the ground and getting damaged?
I purchased a replacement for these shears April 30th, and by today, May 15th, the blades are again damaged and the new shears are unusable. These are such comfortable shears to use with their weight and grip. The spring feels excellent, and the shears do appear to hold their edge. However, no amount of good quality or comfort makes up for the inability to safely carry the shears around. It’s not an acceptable alternative to purchase a competitor’s sheath at a higher cost than these shears themselves when I can purchase the competition’s shears WITH a sheath at a comparable price. I had to change my rating from 4 stars to 1 star because of my disappointing experience. Save yourself the time and effort and just buy from a company that offers some form of protection for their product.
This is a very durable piece of equipment. I have used it for a couple of weeks and I am impressed by how sharp it is and how well made it is. I feel that I have a wasted all lot of money buying pruning shears from big box stores and having to constantly replace them because they wore out. I can see that it will be a long time before I would need to replace these pruning shears.
This is my 2nd pair of the pruning shear. Everything I said in the previous review still stands solid. The only reason I bought a 2nd pair was because I lost the 1st. pair. I really like this pair of equipment over the big box stores idea of pruning shears. I heartily recommend this high quality product. If you don't lose it I imagine that it would give you good service year over year.
