Unbreakable, about a security guard named David Dunn (Bruce Willis) who becomes the sole survivor of a train wreck, posed the question of what would happen if superheroes were real. At the insistence of a mysterious, rare-comic-book collector named Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jack-son), who suffers from a medical condition that makes his bones shatter on the slightest impact, Dunn comes to believe that he has super strength and is impervious to injury or illness. Not only that, he has the ability to see or sense the evil deeds of others simply by touching them. The Unbreakable score, by James Newton Howard, was the second collaboration between Shyamalan and Howard, following their work together on The Sixth Sense. The Unbreakable score experience was unlike any the composer had had before. "Night sat there and story-boarded the whole movie for me," Howard said. "I've never had a director do that for me. He wanted something that was very different, very distinctive, that immediately evoked the movie when people heard it." Howard and Shyamalan chose to simplify the score, and minimized the number of instruments (strings, trumpets, and piano), with limited orchestrations. Some compositions were recorded in a converted church in London. "You could have recorded the same music in a studio in Los Angeles, and it would have been great, but there is something about the sound of that church studio," Howard said. "It's definitely more misterioso." James Newton Howard is an American composer, conductor, and producer. He has scored more than 100 films and is the recipient of a Grammy Award, Emmy Award, and eight Academy Award nominations. His scores include The Fugitive, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Hunger Games film series.

An absolutely terrific motion picture score! This is the music from the film Unbreakable [Blu-ray ]. The music perfectly captures the emotional essence of the story and its characters, and offers a sound track that's truly epic. There's definite gravitas here, as the themes of darkness, betrayal and heroism are engaged with. The score itself is quite minimal (featuring only strings, trumpets and piano), yet the orchestral compositions present something magnificent - almost Biblical, and at the same time rather intimate.

If you enjoyed the movie then I highly recommend this CD. It's a pity that this item is now rather rare - as this has driven up the price. I managed to purchase a second hand copy for about £10. It's absurd that some sellers are charging well over £30 for this.

In additional to owning the CD, I recently bought the music download - only to find that it will NOT play on Amazon music (or Alexa). In fact, it doesn't even show up there! I tried to contact Amazon about this, but there simply isn't an option to message customer services, as a digital download is not an item that can be selected when seeking to chat with them. What a waste of £10 - and what poor service.

Haunting and reflective. The music is haunting and reflective with spell-binding moments. It is different to the usual work of the composer, but its 'unusual' nature makes it interesting and worth a listen. The music is the film soundtrack to the film 'Unbreakable'.

Dieser Souundtrack hätte wahrscheinlich mein Lieblingssoundtrack Album von James Newton Howard werden können. Aber was mich seit jeher stört, ist die lieblose Abmischung. Die Orchestermusik ist so erbärmlich leise gegenüber den elektronischen Rhytmen, dass es echt zum Heulen ist. Insgesamt ist die CD sehr leise. Zuhause mag man das noch unter Ertragen des entstehenden Hintergrundrauschens noch in Kauf nehmen. Auf dem iPod verschindet die Musik gnadenlos in den Umgebungsgeräuschen der Straße in der man sich gerade befindet. Vielleicht ist der Soundtrack deshalb in Deutschland nicht wieder aufgelegt worden. Eine ordentlich abgemischte Neuveröffentlichung würde ich jedoch sofort mit 5 Sternen jedem empfehlen. So halt nur drei.
