This book is good if you want to know the spelling rules for english and these rules can be used with Dyslexic students as they like to learn reading and spelling through logic. This book is not expensive on LKindle and costs only 6dollars. That is the price of a drink here in the UK
This book delivers on providing clear rules for understanding the entire phonetic system of English. My criticisms are that it would benefit from more charts (which logical / deductive thinkers love) and that a few rules could be folded into one another.
However, I have found that many of its rules have already helped me make my daughter feel that spelling is a decipherable, logical, and ultimately, beautiful--rather than silly and irrational. This to me is a great success. I'd give the book 4.5 stars if I could.
It's not an easy read, but it is much less dry than I expected. She really made an effort to make it informative. I am not all that familiar with the various sound markings (/a/ and the like), so there are pages I have had to read more than once to figure out what sounds she's talking about. But I have found some really interesting gems about English even in the first few chapters. I have a general interest in understanding the structure of language (probably because we homeschool our kids) so I am a motivated reader. I look forward to finishing this book and recommend it to anyone who wants to dig deeper. If concepts like 'i before e except after c' and 'a silent e at the end makes the vowel say it's name' annoy you and the fact that the exceptions sometimes outnumber the 'rules' makes you pull out your hair, then you'll enjoy this book.
