This book is very informative and has really helped me with teaching my son to read. We have struggled to find a system that would work for him, and the vertical phonics used in Logic of English has really worked for us. Reading this book before engaging in the LOE educational products set me up to be able to teach my son with the confidence that comes from having a good understanding of how and why the program works. I would highly recommend this book to any teachers or home educators who are looking into vertical phonics for their kiddos.
We are not native English speakers, so we needed desperately some support to help our children understand English language after we have finished understanding it... :). This book proved to be very useful for us as well and using parallel with the videos and the app makes a better understanding (this starting to look like a paid advertisement, but it's not...still, but I hope it will be... :) ) The only problem is that it is US English and we've been warned in school to try to avoid US pronunciation to learn, but still haven't found a better way and spending almost their whole day in school will be a greater influence on their English we just may get deepened by the explanation from this book.
As someone who is dyslexia and has been searching for someone who could explain the mysteries of the English language so that it all makes sense I was delighted to find this book. At 46years of age I wish it had been around along time ago. However I am overjoyed that it's here now and it will be of great assistance to me and my dyslexia son. I have said for many years that phonics it not taught properly and had a conversation with a teacher earlier the year who mispronounced the s and t speech sounds and gleefully informed me that English is a visually language only 30% phonic so it's not worth learning phonics! I am so overjoyed to find someone who truly understands the logic of it all and will enable me to help myself and my son. I Thank you with my whole heart.
Here 's a viewpoint from a non native speaker. Even though I knew the meaning and the spelling of many words (due to French), I was wondering how to pronounce the new words I met. Now it is more obvious to know which sounds I must say. It is funny, since I moved to the UK I've met nobody who knew these rules (even very educated people).
For the French who wanna improve their English, that book can help you for speaking or writing. I'm not sure for listening. First, trust your intuitions. French and English share many words and some rules mentioned in that book are common rules in roman languages. I still recommend that book
it is a long read and you have to read it a few time and extract the pages / information you need. effort required but once you understand you understand. of off the strength of this book and video on youtube we have purchased the logic of english program - time will tell.
This book is good if you want to know the spelling rules for english and these rules can be used with Dyslexic students as they like to learn reading and spelling through logic. This book is not expensive on LKindle and costs only 6dollars. That is the price of a drink here in the UK
