A bit disappointing

I was hooked on my first Michael Robotham book - Life or Death by the intriguing premise of why a man would escape prison one day before he is due to be released. In that book, that premise is fully explored in a satisfying way.
Likewise I was intrigued by the premise of the first book in this Cyrus Haven and Evie series - Good Girl Bad Girl.
That is of Evie having an extraordinary skill - the ability to tell when someone is lying.
I really enjoyed that book and thought that this follow up, would in the process of completing Evie's story fully flesh out that extraordinary skill.
Sadly, it didn't really do that in my view. The plot was far more predictable and a lot less thrilling than the first book. It was almost trauma porn, wallowing too deeply and for too long in the subject matter and I just wanted it to end so I could move on.
