I look forward to each one of Robotham’s new books and I don’t understand why he is not already up there with more recognized crime writers. Perhaps a TV series might help.
Likewise I was intrigued by the premise of the first book in this Cyrus Haven and Evie series - Good Girl Bad Girl.
That is of Evie having an extraordinary skill - the ability to tell when someone is lying.
I really enjoyed that book and thought that this follow up, would in the process of completing Evie's story fully flesh out that extraordinary skill.
Sadly, it didn't really do that in my view. The plot was far more predictable and a lot less thrilling than the first book. It was almost trauma porn, wallowing too deeply and for too long in the subject matter and I just wanted it to end so I could move on.
I couldn't wait to start the next book (WHEN SHE WAS GOOD) I was quick to ring my local book shops to embarrass myself to find out it wasn't out yet so i was rather quick to pre-order it through amazon.
The characters and the story is so addictive!!
Michael Robotham is an incredible writer, i have read 6 of his books.
"Say your sorry" 10/10
"Good girl bad girl & when she was good" 10/10
'When she was good", tells the backstory of Evie, even so I could not feel desperately sorry for her. She had such a tragic childhood, it is no wonder she went off the rails. Even so I don't think the book actually merges her life tragedy with Cyrus. The end seems to tell you the final in a very compressed space of time.
I need to ' slip into' someone else's world to escape my own busy Mind at bedtime.😊

It's a hard read in many ways, and tough going on characters I came to love in the previous book, also possibly a little far fetched, but definitely good escapism if that's what you're looking for.
Written in the first person, alternating fairly short chapters from Cyrus' and Evie's points of view, Cyrus' efforts to dig deeper into Evie's past do not go well, to say the least. There are people who have been looking for her since she was discovered hiding in the wall of a house seven years ago and they will stop at nothing to silence her. It was good to find out more about her past and I look forward to the next episode as I'd love to see where this goes. TV series material.
