Having waited anxiously for another amazing edge-of-the-seat tale from one of my favourite authors, I was very disappointed with Michael Robotham’s latest novel. While the book gets off to a promising start, it quickly descends into “yada, yada, yada”. I struggled through a third of the book before giving it away. It got to the stage where I started to wonder whether Robotham actually wrote this book?

Philomena 'Phil' McCarthy is a young policewoman who is dedicated to serve and protect. Phil is also the daughter of a gangster and because of this she's not as respected as she should be in the force. All Phil wants to do is prove herself.
So, when she unknowingly arrests a decorated detective who has a history of abuse, Phil immediately wants to protect his victims. One of these victims is Goodall's girlfriend who Phil forms a close friendship with. The other is Goodall's wife who's desperately trying to gain the courage to escape. However, by getting too involved, soon Phil finds herself caught in a web that is intent to ruin her life.
For me, anything by Michael Robotham is an automatic read!! His new book, the standalone ᴡʜᴇɴ ʏᴏᴜ ᴀʀᴇ ᴍɪɴᴇ is exactly what you expect from Michael- a real masterpiece.

Almost, but at various stages of the book I had to put it down, as the suspense, the tension and the breakneck pace left me breathless and I needed a few minutes of time out! A phenomenal read! So many different strings and all intertwined. In a word, brilliant!

I am a big fan of this author and this has to be one of his best books. It portrays the age old problem of men's abuse of women in the currant age. The lead character a women PC in the Met police suffers the misogyny and corruption of senior officers. This is a story of relationships both good and bad that has the reader enthralled.. This a must read so enjoy and good on you Michael Robinson and how about a follow up on Philome and Henry.

I like the start of this story as I usually love his books! However I found the protagonist to be stupid at times, also the corrupt nature of the police all the time, was not believable to me!
A little disappointing for me.

Compelling read. Expect the unexpected. I shall say no more for fear of inadvertently disclosing too much. This novel rivals Robotham's first books, full of surprises.

I have read most of Michael robotham books. I have enjoyed them all. This was a waste of money. Boring tedious story. Not worth reading in my opinion

Not this author’s best

One of my favourite authors that I have no qualms about buying his books- particularly the Joe O’Loughlin series. Sometimes I’m swayed by my liking of his literature to give higher stars than may be fair. So, to be fair this time, I found the book rather disappointing and not up to the usual expected standard. The storyline is a little weak and the characters lack an interesting pull.
That said, the book is worth a read and is better than many other highly recommended books of this genre.

Michael Robotham on top form with this one. Well plotted page-turner with twists and turns right up to the final pages. The story starts slowly gathering speed throughout up to the surprising finale.........don't miss it!
