Bought these for an inexpensive guitar that though was a fantastic value and quality for the price, the tuners were very sub par and did not hold tune very well. They actual slipped and had play in the tuner.
I used the Wilkinson brand to replace those and must say I am very please of the quality and happy with my purchase. These were a direct replacement that fit perfectly without any modification what is ever.
They hold tune 100 times better than to old tuners and though the stringing of the tuners are slightly different that what I am used to, the design of them really does work.
I would recommend these and will buy again. They were inexpensive compared to other brands. Though I can’t say they are better it worse...I do compare these to my fenders, Gretsch and Grover tuners in my other guitars and they hold there own.
Bought these for a parts Tele I was constructing at home. Very good quality, and after the strings settle in the tuning is solid.I've had a lot of luck with Wilkinson hardware, and these tuners are no exception. Definitely not what you would consider true locking tuners, but the two-hole system Trev developed for these certianly makes sure there is little to know slippage when it's strung through. Now considering getting a set for my Squier Telecaster CV.
My original tuners had significant play in them. These have none. I had to enlarge the original holes to a single bore of 3/8". Then the tuners fit in nice and snug. The internally threaded retaining nut fit this size as well. Once the holes were bored out, installation was simple. Align them all square, then predrill the retaining screw hole with a 1/16 pilot hole. They turn smoothly and hold tuning very well. Certainly an upgrade for me.
Replaced the stock tuners on my Ibanez SA. The Wilkinsons were a direct drop-in replacement for the 10mm holes and the screw hole even matched up. They look nice, smooth to turn and they hold tune. In my opinion, you can't beat these as the quality/price combo blows everything else out of the water. Wilkinson is a great brand, that makes awesome gear for affordable prices. I have their alnico and ceramic pickups and now these. I can confidently say, I will only be using Wilkinson parts from now on.
I've put these on two guitars now, and while they don't use the same lock in mechanics as others, they still offer an affordable upgrade to OEM tuners found in lower to medium priced guitars. At half the price as the big name brands , you can't go wrong for the money, (unless of course you want to pay for a name.)
