Catnip Toy, Yellow Banana
From the manufacturer
What is catnip?
Catnip, Nepeta cataria, is a member of the mint family of herbs. For centuries humans have grown catnip for humans, but the herb is best known for its action on cats. The chemical in catnip called nepetalactone is what cats respond to. However, not all cats react to catnip. Kittens will not show the behavior until they are at least 6-8 weeks old.
About 80% of adult cats (including many kinds of wild cats!) react to this intoxicating herb. The catnip reaction is inherited, and some cats are totally unaffected by it, but when they do react – YEOWWW!

I placed an order yesterday for quite a few cat toys (some by Yeowww) and a gorgeous cat Christmas stocking, which was for my baby girl Molly (3yrs old and sweet and gentle) and the box arrived an hour ago.
So I opened it in the kitchen on the counter. Carefully taking out the toys aimed for the Christmas stocking all of a sudden 2 cats flew into the kitchen. They were fast asleep in front of the fire when I went into the kitchen. Granted, Molly does have a thing about boxes and she is always in situ when they arrive. I have to empty them and give her the boxes.
Nash was up on the counter as I am desperately trying to get the toys into the stocking, to hide in a cupboard until Christmas. All hell broke loose when he just got near the Yeowww Apple Cat Toy. He literally pushed me away, growling at me and stole it! A mild scuffle then occurred between me and Nash (no animals were hurt in the making of this movie, as they say!!) and I got it off him. Him climbing my legs, all 2 stone of black Panther like cat! as I’m trying to cut the tag off the toy. Then Molly started.
I dropped the Apple.
Then the madness got worse. They just went crazy!!! I was a mixture of horrified as well as laughing myself almost to the point of needing the toilet. It was mad. I should have taken video, but it all happened so fast. I was ill prepared for the impact a Meowww cat toy would have on my babies. My gentle fur babies that cuddle me and snuggle me and rock my world.
I’ve had to break up 2 fights, serious fights with teeth and screams and fur everywhere as they battle for the Apple. I removed the Apple, shouted at them both to behave, then they were clawing at the cupboard I threw the Apple in. So as I didn’t want my cupboard destroyed I got the Apple back out and threw it down the hallway. I’ve left them too it! I’m outta there, seriously. Utter chaos!
It was supposed to be for Christmas! This company are going to bankrupt me as I’ve had to order a Banana now as the Apple is no longer within my reach. I want to keep my skin intact and frankly, they are loving it so much I haven’t the heart to take it off them.
I don’t know what type of Catnip is in this Apple, but goodness me, it works!!!!!
Be prepared for chaos.
Tip: Do not open the box until they are safely ensconced in a cat carrier with the door locked. If buying for Christmas, do not wrap it whilst they are anywhere near you or even in the same room. They can smell it a mile away. Stash it at a friends house out of the building or they will find it!!!
I’m still laughing …
It continued as I was talking on the phone to SSE Energy who had phoned me to see if I was ok after yesterdays power cut. She asked me what on earth was going on! LOL She did laugh when I told her about the Apple.
Oh yeah, Nash is exhibiting signs of total euphoria now. Laid on counter top rolling himself around LOL. He looked at me with those eyes as if to say ‘Its a man thing’ LOL
Buy one!! Christmas Day is going to be mad with that Banana!! LOL
This was my message:
"Hello! I ordered the banana catnip toy from Amazon a week ago and it has already ripped releasing the filling everywhere. I'm guessing they're made to withstand this for more than a week? Please could you send a replacement? I have a photo and receipt from Amazon."
And this was the response I got:
"Oh my gosh, Kitty tore it open to get the catnip to eat! It is good for them. Now I’m going to have some fun with you.
So, how does 7-8 grams of catnip get “All over everything!” : )
It is catnip, and a vacuum cleaner will work great but you may need to empty the bag a twenty times to get it all!! ;)
These toys are made of sturdy cotton twill. The only stronger fabric that would keep the cat from ripping, would be Kevlar! It is bulletproof! But no oder of catnip will be let out. No Smelly!
Cats will try to get at it by bunny kicking it or front claws and teeth! They sometimes ‘kill' it in a day or 2 weeks or they may consider it a mate and and even sleep with it or will lovingly carry it all over for 10 years, yes we have customers cats like that..
All kitties reactions are different. What would you suggest we make them out of?
At least they are made in the USA and not Chinese toys filled with stuff ? And a pinch of maybe catnip. Or make kitty sick!
Thanks for letting me have a little fun!"
It's the size of those fun-size actual bananas you can get in supermarkets. It's absolutely crammed with catnip, and the smell is extremely strong. Other fruits are available from this company (and the apple is set to arrive later today), but the banana offers pleasing length for back-paw kicking action. It's now looking even more like a banana, being an unsavoury brown at the end after some sucking. He's played with it multiple times a day for over a week, so it has staying power.
I'd bought some catnip mice from another emporium, and these had been greeted with only moderate enthusiasm. Eddington, who's around 18 months old, is a rescue cat. We've only had him for a couple of weeks so are still trying toys out. The sitting room is littered with discarded attempts to entertain. Crinkly starfish, not so much. Drug-filled bananas, buy them by the bunch, says Eddington.
If your cat likes catnip (and not all do), I think fun (for both cat and owner) is guaranteed with this toy. I post evidence below.
My cat is all over this toy, proof attached.
Despite the....rigerous play they endure, they're really well made, using heavy duty fabric with solid stitching.
The cigar lasted easily a year before we decided to give it a break and added the banana into the mix. It's still in one piece, and hasn't leaked any catnip, but is starting to look a little limp and sad.
Overall a fantastic toy that I couldn't recommend enough.
This comes wrapped in plastic which i think helped preserve the catnip. Catnip toys I previously bought from large supermarkets only faintly smell of herbs and didn't really do anything. When i first got it she looked demented (and i admit, i was worried) but she seemed happy enough teaching that banana a lesson.
When she eventually breaks this i will definitely buy her another. it's given me hours of amusement too.
What I really love about it is that it's the toy they come back to time and time again. One of them will pounce on it an spend twenty minutes attacking it, then leave and the next one pounces, attacks and plays and then the third, who has been keeping a watchful eye on all of the action, will attack.
The banana will get pushed under the sofa or behind a table and a few weeks later they'll find it again.
My oldest cat doens't like catnip much and winces when we get a new toy, I think it's too strong for her, but we've not had that with this at all.
Would definitely buy more for friends and family, not for us as it's so tough I don't think it would get ripped apart!
It would be fair to say my cat likes his new toy. He became very inquisitive the moment I put the package on the coffee table, and things went from calm to 'frantic, crazy cat" the moment I took the plastic off. I'm surprised I still have all my fingers. Ya gotta work quick getting this toy out of the wrapping! Needless to say I will be buying more of this brand of cat toy.
The items arrived packaged together and my cats became suddenly acutely interested in my delivery, trying to open the box themselves and drooling all over the packing paper when I helped them. As soon as the toy was located inside they become excited and I only managed to fish out my expensive computer accessory by luck before it became a victim of the appeal of The Banana.
The banana is a great shape for little cats as they can snuggle up to it and hold it like a kicker, and already ours is riddled with marks from eager teeth and claws. The bigger cat throws it around beside himself with excitement while the smaller one lovingly tries to bite it to death, locked in her fatal embrace. They both have a great time playing with it and it's the only toy I have to put away in a cupboard in between sessions. Whenever I take it out again the cats immediately know they're in for a good time. I'm writing this review now because I'm back to buy some of the sardine-style toys in the same range so they don't have to take turns!
My cat went BANANAS for this toy (sorry!). She is the kind of cat that is too cool for toys and such like, always looking down on the poor fools that are playing around while she has better things to do. However as soon as I put this toy down she immediately started playing with it. She loved it so much that I had to restrict how often she was allowed it as I think she got a bit obsessed. Sadly the dog also took a shine to it and has recently decided thats her new toy to slobber all over. So I'm probably going to have to buy another one dammit. I'd say it was worth it though, everyone loves a banana
With regards the cat nip, we have bought cat nip that has a more pronounced effect for just a couple of pounds, so its not as if this is some grade A Honduran gold, its just your average run of the mill, could be anything ground up (i'm sure i can smell herbs) cat nip.
The catnip in these is really strong. Not too overpowering, but strong enough to entice kitty to play. My girl Starla in particular absolutely loves this range. She bats them about, catches them, bites it, and goes absolutely nutty with it. I love watching her play with this as she does seem to really enjoy it.
We've had this one for a while now and there's a few teeth marks and claw marks in it but it hasn't torn, even though I'm sure she has tried to eat it at some point.
I wouldhighly recommend it if your cat likes catnip. I've found in the past some catnip toys have very weak catnip and the toy just gets left. This has continued to be a favourite.
But seriously. If you want to enable your cat's drug habit, get them a banana. Oh, and of you have several cats, get one per cat or prepare for screeching growling fights.
