5.0 out of 5 starsIf you like thinking about the future, you'll like this book.
Reviewed in Australia on 23 June 2017
I've read a lot of business books in 2017.

As I've read more and more books across business and tech, there's three criteria that I judge these books on. I know I'm going to love a book if it:
> Introduces me to new ideas
> Makes me question long held assumptions
> Balances big picture thinking with practical tactics
For me, this book delivers strongly on all three.

I don’t agree with all of Thiel’s opinions. But if you like thinking about the future you’ll probably like this book. 👍👍👍

2.0 out of 5 starsCulture overwhelms strategy
Reviewed in Australia on 17 September 2018
It overlooks culture and is perhaps applicable only to the USA environment. I also think it sets a standard for success that is far too high for the great majority of start ups, that being 10x better than competitors. This excludes a vast number of successful start ups.

Some really good distinctions around the critical importance of distribution strategy for a start up. The Distribution Dead Zone helped me to improve my sales system. Should’ve gone into more depth on the co-founder aspect but worth reading for anyone doing a start up.

The book was useful to read! I definitely agree with the over-arching thrust, but more could have been done to explore how iterative improvements succeed/fail in a market.

I loved this book. Peter takes you through personal examples of people and companies going from 0 to 1 and why you should aim for 10x rather than incremental improvement. Although nearly all examples are tech orientated. I have a fitness industry business and my evernote was getting full of ideas, questions and new ways of looking at my industry. Anyone from any industry will gain usefull ideas from this book.

Just finished reading it. Love the idea of companies going for a 10x improvement vs 10% and completely agree about the importance of sales. Not sure how scientific or accurate some of his views are on why pursuing niche industries is bad or how tech will solve most the world's problems but still a great collection of his expriences
