When initially poured with hot water (~90deg cel), after approx 7 hours, retains heat to approx. 65deg celcius (measured when kept in room temp of approx. 22deg celcius)
Ultimately you are not buying a mug, you are buying the ability to enjoy hot coffee multiple hours after brewing it fresh.
Fits my car cup-holder, although the mug is a bit on the slim side.
Fairly easy to clean as the top gasket assembly detaches without any major hassle.
Also love the dark cocoa color to go with my coffee beans!
Good speedy delivery from Japan and I did not face any hassles being delivered in UK via customs etc. Arrived in approx. 2 1/2 weeks.
Disturbingly, my most recent purchase in May 2019 arrived from the Royal Mail with a HM Customs & Excise import duty bill of £3.45, and a Royal Mail ‘duty collection charge’ of £8.00, adding £11.45 to the cost.
This did not happen with either of the previous bottle purchases, and nothing on the Amazon entry for this product seemed to warn me of this possibility. I could accept a £3.45 duty if that is legally correct, but an £8.00 collection fee by Royal Mail is a complete rip-off! And why didn’t it happen twice before?
I have bought other international items on Amazon which included a pre-paid duty charge, and so at least avoided the rip-off Royal Mail collection fee of £8.00. Why isn’t this offered here?
Please don’t let it put you off the bottle, which is genuinely brilliant, but be warned! If anyone knows how to get round this duty problem , please let me know.
That said... a short while ago, one of the rubber gaskets split, making the cup unusable. No problem right? - just simply go onto the Zojirushi.com main website & order the replacement gasket for $6 USD. The Gasket in question is number 5 in my second image provided.
This is where my problem started. Simply put - if you live in the UK you cannot get ANY spare parts. I have tried the main site in the USA - but NO. The UK distributor is "Kitchencraft.co.uk" - these guys are beyond useless and after a very lengthy email debate; the answer they provided, NO we do not sell any spare parts for any Zojirushi product (buyer beware - if you are intending to purchase something more expensive than a travel mug e.g. a rice cooker!). Zojirushi in JAPAN could send me the replacement seal but for a whopping £30.45 (this includes postage, HM Customs & the Royal mail charges), thanks for trying Zojirushi Japan but, £30 for a replacement gasket on a cup that Cost £22 +£11 customs & royal mail charge.
I would give the cup 4 stars but, it is an expensive bit of rubbish if a rubber gasket breaks.
You probably bought a £2.99 thermal cup from a supermarket.. but this is the dogs B. Pricey but if you want the best, this is it. Drinking from it is as good as any other thermal cup, no harder, lid flips open and is held back by a stainless spring so lid will not flop into your face. Contents 3 hours later are still boiling hot so be careful drinking. Easy to wash, comes apart but you only have to put a bit of hot water in it and shake gently for 10 sec, then poor out, repeat, job done.
I love the colour too, and the way you can snap it open one handed. It's easy to take apart and wash, and the colour doesn't flake off it you put it in the dishwasher.
I use it every morning to take to work. Everyone is jealous.
On the flip side, the mechanism for closure is good, its compact and doesn't seem to leak.
The spout is beautifully engineered and easy to use, though the flip up lid does rather obscure your face if you happen to be trying to talk to someone at the same time as sipping your brew.
The top working parts all come apart easily for rinsing - I recommend doing this as soon as you can to prevent it having a permanent smell of coffee.
Highly recommended, compared to other brands/types of travelling mug/container which I have found wanting in some way or another.
2017 - still very good but the rubber seal in the lid unit is showing signs of wear/mould and even anti-shower mould stuff won't shift it. Probably harmless but when I tried to find a spare part in the UK I had no luck. Am in Japan this year so will see if I can get a replacement part there - or see if the whole item is cheaper and just buy a new one.
They are solid, very effective, easy to dismantle and clean. Easy to unlock the safety lock and flip open the top with one hand, which exposes the pouring spout. I do find the lid stopper can press against the nose when drinking directly from the flask, which is a tiny bit annoying but not worth losing a star over as this is such an excellent insulated mug otherwise.
And these have the best heat/cold retention I've ever seen in a travel mug.
I did go for the 480ml size and it's a bit too tall to fit under the spout of my capsule coffee maker... I sort of have to lean it at an angle. So far that works ok but the smaller size would avoid that problem and would still hold a full cup of coffee (this larger size does about two cups or a mug and a half).
I only gave this 4 stars for durability as we have not really used it yet so the 4 stars are based on the larger one my daughter already has by the same manufacturer. So we are expecting this one to be just as good.
Just be sure not to put this in the dishwasher, always wash by hand.
And it keeps drinks hot, and I mean HOT! After four hours still got scalded by very hot drink,so I'll need to rethink how hot I make my coffee for transport. So really insulates well.
I'll be getting another one to keep a cold drink in the car in summer weather.
