Unfortunately Amazon only sells the Basic Edition of its Fire TV in Australia and we miss out on US models which pack more grunt, support faster Wi-Fi, handle Ultra HD streaming and work with Amazon's talkative Alexa smart assistant.

Basic will play HD, 4K will play UHD, so if you have a UHD (4K) TV, the 4K is the choice, also latest 4K Firestick version includes Alexa voice on the controller....

it's just like an android OS - if you have HDMI you will connect to it. There is an ability through the firestick to 'load' other apps. It's possible that the ones that come with it are region locked, but you should be able to add anything to it

It sounds like a malfunction or broken firestick. Try diconnecting and reconnecting and setting up again
