If you have a computer the need for this device becomes redundant (unless said computer has no way of connecting to the internet).

This device brings smart technology to older TV'S that don't already have these options. So long as you have a HDMI port on the TV.

I don't have HBO max but it seems to stream everything I have tried. More usefully for you, please note it doesn't deliver 4K (which HBO can deliver). but does give good HD on 4k programs.
