This book is sooo good! Lucy King has created two characters who are perfect for each other even if it takes !while for each of them to realise it. I loved the Englishness of this story. The quaint little exclamations that came out with really turned her int a real person for me while Jack, a thoroughly modern businessman, is the quintessential English gentleman, holding his emotions close to his chest and issuing edicts in a way that I always associate with Englishmen. The plot held me from the first. I loved that Stella was constantly surprising Jack with her responses to the things he said and did. Clearly the setting is contemporary England and Scotland, one of my favourite places in all the world so while that didn't hugely impact in the story, it was an added bonus for me. The mention of Little Snoring, a tiny Norfolk village I visited last time I was in England, had me drowning in pleasant memories. All in all, His Best Mistake has been a thoroughly satisfying read.
