I bought this as a Christmas present for my boyfriend, and damn has it been a treat. I think I’ve used it more than him (whoops).
For those who haven’t experienced VR before, this is an incredibly user friendly experience with no set up required, making it easy to jump in. For those who have experienced VR, it’s still a real joy to use over older headsets, just for the freedom of movement that comes with no cables.
We have been using it pretty heavily every day since Christmas, and haven’t had a single tracking issue so far. I’m seriously impressed with the all-in-one headset as it doesn’t feel like a downgrade at all. You can still play all the VR favourites - Beat Saber, Superhot etc. And if you want to experience more (like Steam VR), you just need to buy an Oculus Link cable to connect your PC and BAM - full powered headset with a whole new library of games available. And it all costs a lot less than a typical VR headset.
Things I loved: - Ease of use - USB-C charging cable is super quick - Comfy to wear - No loss of tracking - Watching my boyfriend flail around in his virtual world while he looks ridiculous in the real one - Nice haptic feedback in the controllers - I’m losing weight playing Beat Saber - Audio jack on each side of the headset - Built in speakers are surprisingly great, work well with binaural/stereo audio to really immerse you.
Things I didn’t love: - No Bluetooth headphone support, though it looks like it may be available in the future through a software update. - We have had to replace the batteries in the controllers already. Get yourself a pack of AA batteries to go with it. - Foam face guard takes a long time to dry when you work up a good sweat (gross, I know). I will probably buy a second one just so others can use the headset comfortably after my aggressive Beat Saber sessions. - You need a Google Chromecast to cast the headset view to the TV. I have a good WIFI network and a smart TV with casting/screen mirroring capabilities, but I can’t take advantage of that with the Quest. - You cannot have more than 1 account per headset. Everything I do is under my boyfriend’s profile.
Overall, I am thoroughly impressed. People still think VR is not ready for the mainstream, but this headset changes that. I highly recommend this to anyone, young or old, hardcore gamer or novice. It is truely a unique experience.
