Sensible approach, quite detailed info on position, technique, fingering etc. I’m a complete novice, hoping to be able to play modest melodies with a pleasant sound. This book would seem to provide what I need.
Have just started to play cello and this book was recommended by my teacher. Useful CD to help with tempo and what the pieces should actually sound like, although I understand that it won't run on every computer. DVD too, though not used that. Easy to follow with good diagrams and explanations of bow hold etc. Large clear musical notation. Some familiar tunes (we're playing Christmas carols in May...) which encourage new players as they know the tunes. Recommended.
I like the layout of the book but some words need to be updated like cd. Which apparently has been changed to online which is fine except for not knowing that and thinking I was short a cd and no idea on where to find the music being played. The app format is not the best in the world and I have to go to a different website to listen to the music for the practices but getting the hang of it. Got this book as a supplement for my son during the summer while cello was out and he seems to like it. One other thing that it always doesn’t explain what or how to do certain things with the music like holds through different notes.
The book is very thorough and completely explains how to play as if you were taking lessons from someone. Went along great with my GRACE Cello that I purchased, which is also great. The only problem was it was not very protected in the packaging, and came with a large bend/crease on the left corner. Otherwise, it's an awesome book-great for a beginner of any age!
I really like this. I sent for the CD and I don't understand why it doesn't show more than just how to properly hold my cello and bow. I waited for it to show more on the cd but nothing more happens. I really like the book, though.
Im teaching my self how to play the Cello and this is a great book to be doing that with. It is great that it shows the placement of your fingers on the strings. You dont need to be able to read music in order to use this book. It does a great job at teaching you how to read music.
