I thoroughly enjoy this book. I always enjoy books where I feel the author is being fully honest about their experiences and stories wart and all I am told it is called.
I think every man in the world a one point in their/our lives though we were or could quite easily become the strongest man in the world. In this book Eddie Hall tell us exactly what it takes. There is no magic formula, it is physical and mental toughness bordering on torture. Then there is the sacrifice. This burden is not carried alone but must be shared by friends and family members alike. There is also a big difference between strength and health.
The book covers Eddie early and family life and of course his journey to becoming the strongest man in the world. The road is not easy. It takes someone like Eddie’s do or (literally) die attitude to make it happen. Eddie calmly take about injuries and situations that probably would have killed most people. The only thing that is not covered in this book is specific training me. Eddie vaguely says the number of hour he spends in the gym. but not specific of the exercise. The story is more about Eddie life experiences and the sacrifices along the way.
A great story and hard earned achievements and success. Many of which almost cost Eddie his life. A great story but Eddie is not shy talking about cost to himself and his family. A great story as long as you don’t mind a decent sprinkling of f-bombs, though that is just Eddie’s personally and speech so it adds authenticity.
I bought this for my son as an extra gift on his 21st Birthday. He competed it in a day, laughing and relaying tales from it the whole way through. Eddie "The Beast" hall tells you about his childhood, his family and the events that lead him to the title of World's Strongest Man, his lifetime ambition, after a youth as an all-England swimmer. No ordinary competitor; Eddie's parents used to sit in the aisles when he won, to make a quick getaway, fully expecting antics like stepping onto the podium in a bathrobe to reveal he was wearing his female colleagues spare costume, and, annoyed at Olympic trainers, doing a "swim by" completely naked. Read this book, then follow his youtube channel and enjoy the hilarious, foul-mouthed friendship with his Power Lifting and Strongman buddies. This guy is an old-fashioned English Working Class hero. An inspiration. Buy this book. I really want to meet the guy to get him to sign ours. Love it to bits.
What a story from a very strong minded person. His story makes you think of the sacrifices people have to make to become the worlds best. Eye popping but please do not pat him on his back while he is training. You are liable to get a slap. Great read. Cannot say how much I enjoyed this.
Never been motivated to write a review before; this was the first item that actually motivated me to think it was worth it.
Best book I have read in a while - motivating, funny, real, engaging and thoroughly inspirational - also with a dose of humility, reality and honesty.
Couldn't put it down. A quick read - just like in real life, there's no fluff or mincing of words. To the point and all the better for it.
I feel like there's something here for anyone - from would be athletes looking to understand the mindset of a champion to troubled teenagers looking for a bit of inspiration and just about everyone in between.
I really liked reading this book. It’s really chatty and definitely paints a picture of what it takes to be the worlds strongest man. Would definitely recommend even if you are not interested in strong man as a sport, Eddie is such a character, that it makes a good read.
Could not put it down. The only drawback is that I wasn't able to read it 30 years ago! This book should be required reading for all schoolkids and aspiring athletes. The sheer determination that jumps out of every page is phenomenal, Hall had to dig deep every single day for years , battling demons to win the hardest competition on earth. That aside what also strikes again and again is the humour and positive attitude with which Eddy in the end surmounted the highest sporting peak in the world. Truly are inspiring.
If you have any interest in strongman or just want to see what it takes to be the best then this book is a must read. Keeps you hooked from start to finish and will hopefully give a sport that deserves more coverage a boost. Eddie hall is obviously a madman but also a genius. I take my hat off to him for everything he accomplished
Watched Eddie for years and he has always stood out and brought lots more attention to the sport. Its great to see major characters in sports and Eddie doesn't disappoint. What this guy has put himself through to achieve his goals is unheard of and hes a true inspiration! Hes the mike tyson, Hulk hogan, chuck lidell of the strongman world and this book is one of the best ive ever read.
