Excellent book, however, doesnt go into the fact that suzuki should be group taught and starts off at a level requiring an understanding of wrtten music and full fluency of all strings and bowing technique
Honestly, you need to have basic knowledge of how to read music before you start with this book. I'd suggest looking for 'absolute beginner' books for the honest to god beginner... If I had just purchased this book, I would be fairly lost. It will probably be a good one to have after a couple of weeks of learning the basics.
My 5th graders private instructor requested we order this book for her lessons as opposed to the normal school required cellist book. The book challenged our child in sight reading, fingering and advanced her well beyond her beginning peers. Suzuki is a great method to train the ear of budding musicians.
