I found this to be a really helpful cello method - very good for practising technique and a good focus on tonalisation as well. However needs to be used alongside another book as it very much throws you in at the deep end. As an adult who already plays two instruments and has my grade 5 theory it is a really useful book. I would be wary of you are a parent looking to find a book for your child, it's quite intense and you may risk putting your child off!
One thing that I wasn't expecting when I bought this book for my six year old son was that it would have "proper" music notation from the start. It was a little scary at first (he uses the Tetratunes book too where the music is written using letters and numbers) but as the tunes are so simple, it is a good way to familiarise young children with music notation. The exercises are good but I wonder whether it would have been worth buying the CD that accompanies this book too?
Great book for advancing beginner cellists! The book has some great songs, too. However, there are finger numbers on every note. our cello teacher doesn't recommend this for a beginner cellist's first book because they might learn to read the finger numbers, not the notes.
