To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Do you like Yahtzee? Do you like (or fear) Cthulhu? Do you like fun?
I guess two out of three isn't bad.
Elder Sign is essentially a game of chucking dice and hoping you get the right numbers coming up. It's a game of funneled desperation where you must rate tasks to be completed against the tools (dice) you have available. In the end, every choice is one of simple probability - you make decisions all the way through the game, but very few of them count as *interesting* decisions. When you find yourself sucking on the fuzzy end of an eldritch lollipop of futile endeavour, you can't learn from the experience. You can just hope that next time, collectively, your team will roll the dice better. Ultimately, I find that inherently unsatisfying.
So I had bought this gift to give to a friend forever ago, and when I received it it had clearly been used? The package was not sealed and the pieces I side had clearly been punched out and placed into zip lock bags. The game itself is fun. But buyer beware it may not be new.
You send out an investigator to a challenge and roll dice hoping to match the cards requirements exactly. You must roll a "4" and 3x "6s". Nope? Subtract one die and try again. Nope? subtract one die and try again? (By "4" and "6" I mean certain die faces)
Basically you roll a die and either you succeed or you fail. Thats it. I prefer games where after a die roll, you are presented with options and choices. Much more strategic.
My fault for thinking this game was anything more than a lucky roll dice game. Luckily Amazon accepts returns.
We didn't care for this expansion. The additional roles were mostly lame, the new dice and cards just made the game harder. Basically if you tend to be lucky in dice, you might enjoy the extra challenge. But if not, this expansion offers little else. Artwork is nice and components are good.
