Have always loved Dominant strings for myself & students. I just ordered a set with a ball E string and when the strings arrived, I thought the E string didn't have a ball, just a loop. Since I can remember ball E strings always coming attached with the ball at the end of the strings. This E string was sent with the ball needing to be attached by me. I didn't see the little package inside the paper string pouch at first. :-)
I replaced the strings on my son's "beginner's student violin" it came strings that are less than $10 and have steel cores. When a missed note was played, it sounded like a dying cat. with these strings, a missed note sounds just what it is, a missed note. Like playing the piano and pressing the key next to the one intendent. It doesn't sound "right", but you don't run looking for ear plugs. He's also enjoying playing more because the sound is so much better. His teacher said the violin itself was good quality and suggested changing the strings. It's great now.
Great sound quality. Pricey for a beginner (in my opinion) but, definitely worth it to someone who loves music (violin) and values sound quality. I would recommend for advanced (high school/college level) performance. That’s just a rough gauge. Not necessary for a beginner, new violin player (someone who isn’t sure if the violin is something they want to pursue/just trying it out.) This is for an advanced violinist, who wants great sound quality. Great strings!
It took a while longer to break these strings in then I thought. I'd been using Helicore strings for a long time.I wanted to to try these Dominants to see what all the hubub was about I'd been hearing. Sure enough, these are sweet sounding. They've been on a while and are broken in and sound really good.
These violin strings are great! I'm so happy with their beautiful sound. The difference in my playing is so noticeable. I'm just a beginner, but with such sound, it pushes me to keep practicing! I almost gave four stars, because as I was putting in the new strings, the E string popped, before I started tightening it. But I contacted the seller through Amazon, and I received a new string within a week! I was very impressed with the speed and service of the company, and I'm loving my new sound! Great, great product!!!
As a teacher I got sick and tired of cheap strings that start bad, go bad and at best sound poor. Students, especially playing student violins, must be able to achieve good intonation and the best tone possible with the instrument. Poor instruments and lousy strings are a recipe for violin abandonment. Dominants have been the tried and true choice of teachers and professional players for decades.
