I had been using cheaper strings for a while. The A and D string were terribly squeaky so, I decided to change the strings. These strings were highly recommended in the affordable bracket. I'm glad I chose these strings. I have a whole new cello. The sound is amazing, like using a cheap bow vs a quality bow. The quality of the strings make a huge difference. These strings are thicker than what I was using before. It takes a while to get used to the different pressure required to play the strings but, 100% worth it. This might be pointing out the obvious but, all 4 strings need to be changed or the sound is rather odd.
I'm an adult beginner, but an experienced pianist and violinist so I hope my review is useful. These strings made a huge difference in tone to my (brand new) "Stentor Student" cello, which is a very basic beginner's instrument. It came with what I reckon were the cheapest possible strings. I bought an A, a D and a G. Easier to play too, as they are easier to depress. Expensive for beginners but I was really encouraged by the sound I could make.
I was sent 3 good strings and a used, snapped in half A string. Immediately returned. Hoping I wouldn't notice? I think not. How a product can be sent out in this condition is beyond me. Definitely not recommended.
These are excellent student cello strings. I have 'shod' many a cello with them. The price is correct, the tuning is stable. The A can seem a little harsh on some cellos, but they are oh so much better than my recent foray into Pirastro Piranitos - which are back in their packets and will only come out in emergency.
Love these strings. Bought them as a replacement for my current Cello strings. The have a lovely mellow sound and my Cello Teacher prefers them too! She agrees that that are much more friendlier on the ear! Recommended!
For a beginner like me these strings have a pleasant tone and were very easy to fit to my cello. It almost sounds as If I can actually play now.. Very happy with this product and would buy again, so different from the original gut strings...the sound is clearer and more accurate... (nothing to do with my playing )
I bought this set for my 16 year old cello playing son. His teacher fitted and tuned the strings but when he came to practise the next time and needed to tune the 'cello, the D string snapped. I don't know if it was his fault or the strings. I have ordered another one and I hope the same does not happen again.
