BEWARE....this product is not durable. The scratching post has broken clean off the base. This has exposed the interior of the post which is basically a cardboard tube (covered with the rope scratching surface). Protruding from the now broken off tube are very sharp "staples". See picture attached.
Terrible! I bought this ready for my cats in my new home. Opened it on arrival a few weeks ago and it has completely broken. Can’t return it as I bought it in advance. Don’t waste good money on this product it’s flimsey and doesn’t last.
Bought to replace an identical unit which had been slowly destroyed over time by our scratch loving moggy. Buying this was more cost effective than buying a replacement post (figure that one out). Swapped the old worn out unit for this shiny new one and the cat gave it a good going over as soon as he saw it. These are quite tall which is good for our cat as he's quite large and loves to stretch out right to the top.
I already have one of these that's a couple years old, but as I moved to a new house I needed a second to put on the second floor and hopefully protect the new sofas. My Loki loves these posts, he's used the original one every day, and when he saw the new one appear in the lounge he knew exactly what to do! They are a good size for him, and he is a large cat, as he likes to stretch his back at the same time. Honestly the original post is still in daily use even after 2-3 years, the sisel has broken in one place, he's a strong make cat and really pulls while stretching, but I'm sure a bit of glue will give it a few more years! The base is still perfect like new, Loki does like to scratch the base too. It became invaluable when moving house, as he's put so much of his scent into it (from scent glands in cats paws) that he immediately recognized it and acclimatised better to the new home. I'm really happy with my posts, and so is Loki. They are his furniture to rub, scratch and play as he wants, and he's more confident knowing his posts are there (he can be nervous and timid cat).
The post itself is solid and great for scratching, but it is mounted on a light chipboard base. It took barely four weeks for a 4kg cat poledancing happily around it to pull the solid post over, destroying the surround of the single screw hole. The sisal is in perfect condition so it hasn't been badly battered, either. I will have to try and find a new, more sturdy base and reattach the post.
Poor quality, base is a square of chipboard with a hole cut out - the screw for the base goes through this hole but the screw head was almost too small in the first place and weakened the flimsy chipboard more so that it just crumbled around the hole and the screw goes right through with no purchase now. Bits of chipboard all over the floor and have had to use bits of cardboard to approximate a base to make it stay reasonably upright until a new one arrives, rubbish
Got this for my two new cats who had started scratching the carpet as they're not allowed out yet. Couple of squirts of my favourite catnip spray and they got the idea straight away. It's solid and tall - the male cat is quite big and loves stretching right up it. Really good coarse string and they rub their heads against it like bears. Works well on their claws and must be well glued on as none has come off yet.
By the way, this is the spray - works every time - https://www.amazon.co.uk/KONG-CCS-Catnip-Spray-30ml/dp/B001U8CED2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521307075&sr=8-1&keywords=catnip+spray&dpID=41NBca-vSiL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
Dear Amazon, I am writing this review in respect of a recent purchase made by my human slave, his name is Stewart and he bought this post as a replacement for the old one that my sister Kit and I have destroyed over the past three years. My male slave and his wife called Alison, who is another of my slaves (I have three) had told us that they were treating us to a new scratching post and Kit and I were both very excited when it arrived, although my sister was more interested in the box it came in. Imagine the disappointment from my sister and I when my male human slave told me that it had to be returned as there were some parts missing (The shiny bits that fit the post to the base) and that he was going to order a replacement. Kit was more upset as the bits had to go back into the box she was sleeping in and she had to be turfed out. I have to say that the replacement arrived very quickly and was looking forward to sharpening my claws on it (I did try this on the new stair carpet but it wasn’t the same). My male human slave immediately set to work assembling the new one (mainly through concern for the carpet I suspect) Kit immediately began searching in the box the new one came in to make sure everything was in order and all the bits were there. Alas, not only were the shiny parts missing from this replacement order but also the actual post itself! That’s right all that there was in the box was a lot of packaging and the base only! We immediately turned our backs on our male human slave and began washing each other. Neither I nor my sister are currently talking to our human slaves as we feel that through no fault of their own we have been let down in replacing our post as promised. As the end users of this product we are NOT happy. I would like my human slaves to be given a full refund and I will arrange the slaves to return this second product to you along with the first. I will be advising all the other local cats to tell their slaves that this product is NOT recommended. Regards Coco and Kit
So in reality our Siberian cat didn’t exactly jump up and down with excitement when I showed him the scratching post! However, I did when it arrived as my hope for keeping our new carpets in a half decent state was coming to fruition!
It’s still going strong, it is tall (about 60cm) which is a massive plus for us as we have a big cat. It’s also fairly weighted and stable with a wide square, base made from soft grey fleece material, and so hasn’t been pulled over by our monster! The rope is tightly bound and so hasn’t been ripped off like some do.
This was a great buy, tall scratching posts are hard to come by for this price so we’ll worth the money. This is our second we bought - I can confirm these don’t stand up to young children constantly swinging on them!
