To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
The product was shipped in a bag, of all things. Naturally, by the time it arrived the bag itself had been ripped and torn and the package itself had been heavily damaged, even the end had ripped off the box it had been so damaged. Thankfully the product itself seems to be somewhat intact, though one track does appear to be slightly bent.
I purchased this to add it to my Eurostar train set which came with Pack A + B. This completes the inner curve. It was easy to put together and I completed this in a very short time. It also comes with two Power Connecting Clips and a short link wire, to give power to the inner track. This was a bit harder to figure out, but a quick Google and I found a couple of online instructions - one video clip and one step by step on how to fix the two clips to each bit of track. I can now run two trains, one on the outer and one on the inner track with just one power controller. (Both trains travel in the same direction). All together this makes the train set a lot more complete.
The points in my pack (the most expensive part) had a short circuit that means they won’t work with DCC (it shorts out the controller). This is the second set of points from Hornby I’ve had with this problem. Very disappointing. I’ll probably go for Peco in future
One problem - If you are putting it where illustarted in a standard layout (or just after a bend) be aware that you will probably not be able to use the gates on the inside of the curve as they will be hit by the middle of longer carriages (eg intercity/pullman) coming round the inner track - bit of a design snafu. Not a problem with smaller carriages.
This is the last part of the Hornby trakmat jigsaw, and it is a nice feeling to have the rail layout finally complete, and everything working well. The Hornby trakmat is approx 6'x4' in size, and is an easy way of laying out the track. You can either stick this down on the baseboard, or have it beside you when laying the track. In my case I stuck it down, and as the paper mat comes folded to approx. 12"x12" you have many creases when unfolded. Ironing it does not do a lot to eliminate these creases, so I stuck it down by running PVA glue just over the creased areas, and this worked fine. Some people use wall paper paste over the whole area.It will easily tear so use care. The trakmat may not appear to be totally acurate in places, but this is possibly due to lithographic printing, and should not bother you.
I added this Track Pack to my current train set to extend it even more. The pack also includes a double level crossing with track. It was a bit fiddly to add to my existing track, but I gave myself plenty of time and no rushing. It is time well spent. I now have a good size track for my train set and there is plenty of track to run a single or two train around without them running together. The only downside is that I've noticed that some trains will catch the level crossing gates if they are coming around a bend or moving over from one track to another via points. In all a good extension pack to add to your existing set.
