Wondering why it is: Not To Scale - You lay the track on it and without some modifications it will not fit perfectly on the layout Comes Folded not Rolled - So has creases in it from the start, and some of the ink is already worn off on receipt (this is my second mat, both have been as bas as the each other) Paper - Why is it not vinyl or cloth matt so can be packed away easily, unrolled etc. Once unfolded in current form it has a limited life and the paper is not the most durable.
I think Hornby could do better with this product as there is should be a market for it but not in disapointment.
Basically a large piece of paper, that turns out to be very fragile. I opened it to place on the floor and noticed it was split. Am returning it as defective. It is not suitable as advertised - "Perfect for the beginner train enthusiast ".
Comes folded so there are lines on the mat. I did expect this from other reviews. I laid this with an adhesive spray and thin double sided tape on wooden boards. Size 6 x 4 feet. When flattening and smoothing out be careful not to rip the paper. Really pleased with final product.
The mat s ok as far as it goes but is flimsy for the price - only paper. It has other irritations as well, it is a glossy finish that means the Shen spoils any realism. It should be much more. Why not make a series of modules that can be taped together or pasted to boards? Hornby guilty of lack of imagination I thnk.
