I purchased this as well as the millie heartfelt dog toy to calm my puppy. I have a Bichon Frise which are known for their separation anxiety. This SnuggleSafe heat pad is recommended and used by vets, breeders, animal rescues, and animal shelters. It has several uses such as cuddling, pets who are ill and for new-borns and for nursing pets. The SnuggleSafe heat pad contains a gel called Thermapol which is non-toxic which means it stays warm when heated in a microwave. It is designed to give steady warmth for up to 10 hours when placed in cover or under the pet’s blanket.
Its a safe option as its bite-proof and scratch-proof. It is recommended to always have a barrier, such as the free cozy cover, or a blanket between the animal and the SnuggleSafe heatpad. The SnuggleSafe heatpad is especially recommended for anxious pets, having therapeutic effects on stress. This includes a cute paw print patterned fleece cover or you can use your own pets favourite blanket.
Just warm the SnuggleSafe Heat Pad in the microwave After just a few minutes the pad will stay warm for up to 10 hours Suitable for standard household microwaves with power capabilities of 600 - 1400 watts The heating times vary according to the performance of the microwave.
The reason I only gave it 4 stars was because sadly my dog didn't benefit from it, he is far too scatty and anxious to even notice the heat pad. However, I did use it in the evening whilst he was snuggled next to me which was nice but not used for the anxiety.
I bought this for my cat who has inexplicably had a single kitten litter in the middle of December, we were worried about the kitten considering she doesn't have any littermates, we got this to put under her bedding and help keep her warm when her mother isn't around. It's a little thicker than expected however the kitten seems to love it and it stays warm for a long time, but it's more 6-8 hours than 10.
Best price for this that we found. Easy to use and helps keep our spaniel cosy in the winter. We pop this in the microwave for 4 1/2 minutes at bedtime and then stash it under a blanket inside the dog’s bed, making sure he has plenty of room to sleep at the other end if he gets too warm. He has allergies which make his fur a bit thin so he gets tucked in at bedtime! Pad is usually still a bit warm in the morning which is amazing and it’s very sturdy so has withstood a bit of throwing around if we forget to take it out straight away! The fleece cover is a bit hopeless and fell apart quite quickly but a pillowcase or blanket would do the trick (it’s best to wrap it in something as the surface gets hot to touch)
I was expecting it to be a little hotter for longer. However the warmth was still there 8 hours later so I am happy that my small dog will have some extra warmth during the night in the colder months.
It is sold so not too comfortable to lay on for her, I choose to put it to one side so she can choose to snuggle up to it if she likes.
I think the instructions are really important to follow by the looks. Definitely make sure you check the microwave guidelines & what watt yours is as I think they can easily over heat if done too much. States it must be completely cold before reheating too.
This is great, it lasts a lot longer than a hot water bottle and is a lot let hassle. I recommend that you wrap it in a blanket as it is very hard and the soft cover does nothing to make it comfortable, it should be more padded and that's why I have removed one star. Plus if you wrap it up in a blanket you can easily get 12 hours use out of it.
I’d been using a lightly filled hot water bottle in a fleece cover and under a blanket but was concerned it might burst and scold her so I bought this for my cat who loves heat. You need to read the instructions fully before use. It felt quite warm after microwaving it and seemed to stay warm for a reasonable amount of time. My cat does lie on it on top of a single layer blanket to enable her to still feel the heat but the only downside is that it’s as hard as a rock so I can’t imagine it’s too comfortable to lie on. Good product but just not very comfortable probably.
It's fab. My rabbit doesn't tend to sit on it, I think he thinks it's his buddy as he sits near it and grooms it. (poor baby is a lone bun after his friend died) It definitely doesn't stay heated for 10 hours, more like 5 I would say, but it's still worth it as previously we were using a blanket over the hutch which was causing mould. It is sturdy and he hasn't chewed it at all, although he loves eating plastic so I wouldn't guarantee it's survival if it didn't have the cover on it! I would buy another if I find a friend for the bun.
I had to take my hamster on a long journey, during a cold snap, and this was the perfect solution to keep her happy. I guess not many people will be reviewing the SnuggleSafe heatpad based on this particular situation because not many people are strange (or dedicated?) enough to take their hamster with them on public transport, but I can honestly say that this was a lifesaver and kept my hamster warm and toasty in a taxi, two trains and a long cold walk. I didn't put it directly in her carrier though as it would be too hot for that. Only downside is that it is quite heavy and chunky, if they did a smaller/lighter/travel version for jet-setting little critters it would be perfect!
