I love Aveda products because they smell fantastic, but this is a bit of a let down, for my hair if I'm honest. I think it would work best for fine to medium hair.
Pros - Smell (classy), conditions hair and makes it look great, reworkable even next day, and washes out easily.
Cons - It's not really a clay - not in the clay products sense, more a thick cream/paste, for this reason you won't get any volume hold. My hair is thick and not long 3-4" but it doesn't have enough substance to hold it 'against the natural lie/grain' of my hair if that makes sense. Yes it'll make it look healthy and have a bit of texture to it, but needs more 'body' for thicker hair.
I'll keep it and use it occasionally, probably good first week or 2 after a cut, but when you want it to give more 'hold' I'm gonna have to stick with other clay products
It ain't cheap, but it lasts a bloody long time - providing you are not trying to tame a mane of hair - a little goes a long way. Instructions say can be used on damp or dry hair - from my experience damp hair = zero hold, dry hair = good hold with matte finish as described. If you are looking for a solid firm hold this is not the product for you.
Smells decent, washes off your hands easily and seems like a fair compromise between natural (fully paraben free) crap holding and hair isn't moving but you'll it will fall out/ die of cancer chemical heavy alternatives
This smells quite pleasant and feels very light on the hair when the appropriate amount is used. However, the hold is reasonably non-existent. If you want to spike your hair or put it in a style, which goes against its natural shape, then forget it.
However, if you've got medium length hair and just want a minimal 'taming' cream, then this is the product you've been looking for.
For more volume, use a hairdryer when styling. Also, you won't notice any hair product/grease (unless you've applied too much in the first instance).
Probably the best product I've used (and I've used a lot) that claims a "matte finish", this actually does and you basically can't tell its in my hair, good hold too, one thing to mention is the smell, a lot of reviews here mention how good it smells, I personally think its ok smelling but nothing special so don't buy on that premise, it doesn't smell bad, it's just not as amazing as reviewers make out, for what it does in your hair (which is my main reason for buying), I am impressed, nice amount in the tub so should last a good amount of time, so for me, worth the money.
Great smell but I mainly bought due to the good reviews. This isn't holding at all, never mind having strong hold in the reviews. Unsure if i have had a bad batch but it's not it good for hold. Quite disappointed.
