Nice to see the records being produced on 180gm vinyl. As someone who grew up with vinyl but in an age where CD's then MP3's were the way to buy music it's nice to finally be able to buy brand new vinyl for myself. I've noticed this newer records also have thicker cardboard and a stronger spine (if it's gatefold) than the old records, a nice touch that should help avoid your new records ending up old and battered like your parents records (if they're anything like my mum's albums anyway!).
This is a collection of classic Foo Fighters songs that sound excellent on the 180gm vinyl. It comes with some great songs such as Learn to Fly, Breakout, Times Like These, Everlong and many more. It's a double LP gatefold album. Definitely worth a buy if you like Foo Fighters and want their best stuff on vinyl.
One track I would say is missing is DOA. Can't figure out why this wasn't included. I would have preferred that to some of the newer extra songs that were included.
As a fair-weathered listener/owner of some of albums of Grunge rockstars Nirvana,Guns'N Roses this is indeed a blast of a compilation.Nothing explicit about the thunderously rapid loud drumming (gorgeous sounds) swirling guitars and voices yelling for salvation.Skin And Bones,Everlong are outstanding tracks.Guitar riffs on Wheels reminds me of sounds from great rock guitarist of yesteryears.Big Me and Everlong(acoustic version) gives further acoustic respite for those of a meek disposition. If there is only one album to own from Foofighters ,this is it!
AS A FAN, I OWN ALL FOO FIGHTERS ALBUMS BUT I LOVE THIS ALBUM ESPECIALLY BECAUSE OF 2 SONGS "WORD FORWARD" & "EVERLONG" (ACOUSTIC & LIVE) WORD FORWARD WAS WROTE BY DAVE ABOUT HIS LIFELONG FRIEND WHO DIED. THE ACOUSTIC & LIVE VERSION OF EVERLONG IS JUST PERFECT & I MEAN PERFECT. THE ENTIRE ALBUM IS AN EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER, YOU'RE UP, DOWN, SLOW FAST & IT'S ALL SUCH A CRESCENDO RIGHT UP UNTIL "WORD FORWARD" WITH EVERLONG BRINGING YOU BACK DOWN & CALM AGAIN - FABULOUS!
Definitive best of album for the Foo Fighters, if you don't have any of the Foo Fighters albums, you must, at least, get this! Has so many famous songs, it'll give you all you need for a Foo Fighters injection of excellence.
Foo Fighters had always been on the periphery of my radar so I thought a greatest hits would the best way to buy and sample. Not disappointed! All good, no bad. Some loud and rocking, some quieter and gentle. Would recommend to anyone wanting to try Foo Fighters for a first time.
Pure and simply this is a great listen where a band has not tried to include too many tracks to please everyone but the pick of the crop from each album. I must confess to not being an avid fan - I bought the first album and despite liking every single I've heard, never got round to buying another one till now - but may be that makes me more objective - I can simply say I thoroughly enjoy every song on this album! I especially love the new song 'Wheels' and if I was to make one gripe, that would be the omission of 'I'll stick around', simply as it was their first hit single and a notable hit that introduced Foo Fighters to the world (and a darn good song).
The deluxe edition is nicely packaged too and I have been thoroughly enjoying revisiting some of their videos ('Learning to Fly' is still hilarious and 'Everlong' artfully spooky and nightmarish) and appreciating some rarer footage -'Times like These' acoustic and 'Skin and Bones' live.
I am now much closer to being a fan of this band and that is one goal of every greatest hits surely - the truly converted already have all the albums!
If you're only purchasing one Foo Fighters album, pick this one.
It has all my favourite Foo Fighters songs, short of "D.O.A." and "I'll Stick Around", which I've seen other people are missing too, for good reasons. They are two of FF's best songs and the decision not to include them here make no sense.
Yes, there are a handful of other great tracks missing, but it would have been impossible to fit them all on one disc. Plus, if they'd only included songs that had already been released earlier, there would have been almost no reason for hardcore fans to buy this collection. Thankfully, the new songs are all great (especially "Wheels") so fanatics should not be disappointed.
I bought the deluxe edition which comes with a bonus DVD that includes most of their music videos, making it the preferable version of the album.
It's not a perfect collection, but it's a perfect introduction, and a great place to start listening to Foo Fighters.
