Great price. It's simple to use. You press the button which opens the tip of the huller (a bit like the forks on a digging machine). You then push this into the strawberry, then let go of the button and then pull the hull out. You can press the button again to dispose of the hull.
This has been great for hulling a load of strawberries for making jam.
Having used the tweezer-style hullers with varying success, I thought I'd try this one. It really is a very efficient little tool and quite satisfying to use; a simple press on the plunger, stick the four blades into the fruit around the leaves, release the plunger, twist, and Bob's your uncle. I did read one review which said that this huller wasn't any good for small strawberries but this is wrong- you just don't push the blades in as far and it works just the same. it also helps that it is a nice little gadget. Out of interest I have also bought one of the very cheap copies of the Chef'n StemGem and although it looks very similar it definately has a flimsier, cheaper feel to it, and the blades are looser- it also arrived without a plunger knob- it must have fallen off before being posted as the missing part wasn't in the bag! You pays your money as they say...
Excellent for strawberries. 🍓 But we found that they can also be used to remove the eyes from pineapples 🍍 too. I always gift these to friends for their housewarming parties, I think everyone should have one.
We were on holiday when a guest bought one of these for the hostess after we struggled during the morning farm breakfast with strawberries for the cereal or porridge or whatever. We were all impressed as at home I uses a small bladed pointed knife to cut a cone out around the stalky bit and we as the guests had normal knives and forks. Back home I order a few (to get free delivery over £10) keeping one for those "Oh do you like it? Do you want one? I 've got one her you can have", moments. Being a cuss, I still like my knife but my wife uses the corer/huller all the time and loves it. My only issue is that with softer berries as they ripen it can tear rather than cut but my wife says its technique and will hear no complaints. I would like to sharpen the blades but not knowing if they are stainless or plated-steel it not worth the risk of corrosion and anyway SWMBO won't let me. The unit is very well made, is comfortable with a soft rubber covering and should last, but then we do have a spare....
A simple tool to cope with what I find is a fiddly job to do with a knife (but maybe that’s just ham-fisted me!). It is brilliant! And I don’t regret indulging myself by buying it one bit! Easy to use and to clean after use, and makes strawberry-hulling a speedy doddle. So go on, treat yourself... you’ll be glad you did! (And the reward is a bowl of hulled strawb’s!)
Ever find something you didn't know you need, and now can't work out why you never had one in the first place. Well this is that "something" in the Strawberry world. Takes the pain out of de-stalking strawberries, great idea, and a really well made product. Love it!
