This was bought as a gift for myself by my daughter as I like Russell Watson and have been listening to it over the Christmas break.. My favourite track on it has to be track 5 - 'The Magic of Love' with Lionel Richie. what a combination of voices, its just magical and have enjoyed listening to this one track several times.
The only other track thats been new to me, ( but enjoyed the original) was Bridge over Troubled Water as I used to be a fan of Simon and Garfunkel. Even the orchestral background on this track was wonderful..
The downside of this CD is the fact that Russell Watson's voice was wasted on the rest of the easy on the ear songs.
For example, (track 9) To all the Girls I've Loved Before. Sorry, but no one sings this like Willie Nelson. The same goes for tracks 3 and 8. Takes me back listening to Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole..
I like Russell Watson singing 'heavier songs and have heard him singing one of Mario Lanza's well known songs -Be My Love. Now, when he sings this, the hair on my neck stand up, which for me, is the sign of a great performance. I even enjoyed him performing with Andre Rieu...
I have several Russell Watson CDs and this is my least favorite. I do not like the other voices on the tape. And I like the purity of Russell's more classical operatic voice. His cross over to pop does not do his voice justice. Some of the songs are great on this CD, some not so good.
All of Russell's CDs are good, but this is not his best -- though some things on it are good. I own several of his recordings and would rate this one about 4th down the line. I consider "Russell Watson La Voce" to be his best. I do want to add that I am more than pleased with Amazon's service. They are great!
Frankly, I was disappointed with this CD after the previous ones I'd heard - I never thought I'd say this, but I much prefer his operatic-style tracks. Obviously he has a good voice but I wasn't thrilled with his version of these popular love songs.
