Ok, full disclosure: my cat could not care less about the things that I am unhappy with regarding these bowls. Do they hold food and water? YES. But for $10 a bowl, I expect a much better quality product. Both bowls have "lumpy" areas right around the rim, the surface is not smooth as indicated in the photos. Also, one of the bowls has unpainted, rough, ceramic "bits" stuck to the bottom, and it scrapes the ceramic tile floor on which the bowls sit. Lastly, one of the bowls has an unpainted, white "dot" in the middle of the bottom surface, which faces up, and is visible when the food bowl is empty. I use this bowl for his food so it's covered most of the time. And it's not a huge deal, but again, at $10 a bowl, these should be better quality! :)
I use a small dish for pellet food in my guinea pig’s cage. The ergonomic shape is perfect. He has never knocked over the dish, so food stays dry and clean. This is the second dish of this type I bought for his cage. The first was from a brick and mortar store, and it was more than twice the Amazon price. Lesson learned. Anyway, one small dish is for pellets. The other I place under the water bottle spout to catch drips—this keeps his bedding dry in that area. I wipe out the dish daily, as bits of bedding and hay inevitably get kicked into the “drip tray.”
******UPDATE AFTER 4 MONTHS OF USE******** Poor quality dish. Glaze flakes off after 4 months. Please see photo and buy something else!
I was pretty sure this should work great because of the rounded edges. The idea was that the food would not spill over the edges (I have rabbits and these guys sometimes dig into food bowls), but it turned out that it was difficult for my pets to get to the pallets that sank into a wider bottom than the top. Trying to get to food, they moved these bowls around the house, which of course looks funny, but not at all funny when the bowl keep crashes into something with a noise
I wanted to love these so badly. I purchased the green one and the blue one (they're both so pastel and cute) and they both arrived in one piece. They're lightweight yet definitely impossible for my hedgehog to tip over, but I'm so frustrated about the quality of the products I received.
I know it's hard to quality control a lot of small, hand-made/-painted items, but certain imperfections shouldn't be overlooked when small critters with bad eyesight and teeny brains (unfortunate but admittedly adorable) will be using the product. There is a chip on the lip of the green bowl I received - my hedgehog loves to rest her delicate little paws on her food bowl while she chows down, and I fear that she could get a nasty cut from the edges of the chip that I might not detect quick enough.
The sticker inside the blue bowl left a surprisingly tough residue on the bottom that I can't scrape off with my fingernail, use an abrasive tool on, or soak off due to hedgehogs' extremely sensitive sense of smell. The chemicals may negatively affect her even if they appear to have been rinsed off completely.
The other imperfections are purely cosmetic, but annoying nonetheless. There are raised white bumps that appear to be little pieces of pottery trapped in glaze. I don't want to be cleaning the bowls and endlessly scraping at these bumps because I'll think they're chunks of food stuck to the bowl. On the bottom of the green bowl there is a flaw in the glaze that makes it look and feel unclean.
Honestly, these bowls appear to be of great quality and have the added bonus of looking cute, but as a broke, busy college student, I don't have time to return and exchange products. I'll have to make do with what I received, but if I could, I would prefer to have a "neater" set of food & water bowls for my prickly baby.
Bought 2 small bowls for 2 male guinea pigs, one 2 years old and one 7 months old. They both have problems getting to the food, even with it tilted on on the side so it is leaning on the cage. The older one will throw it around due to not liking it after he dumps out his food. He is able to accomplish this from it laying flat as well! They are loud bouncing around in a wire cage. The littlest one can not or will not eat all of his food and I was worried he was going hungry so I removed the bowls and returned to their old one. For $3 a piece they are not worth the money.
