Although this is advertised primarily for violin, viola and cello, I wanted to see how it faired for double bass and I am happy so far. It's of course personal taste with Rosin but it arrived in superb condition and sound and feel are perfect for me as an all-rounder.
I am disappointed with the box that supposedly makes this rosin so special. Upon discovering this product I was excited as the whole idea of a handy pop open box I could use with one hand was perfect for the kind of work I do (largely in the pit) but the box actually doesn't open properly and I end up having to use both hands anyway. the rotating dial is a cool gimmick but not necessary and mine actually doesn't work very well as it gets stuck.
Had the box been what I expected this would be 5 stars and I couldn't bring it down any more because the actual rosin is lovely. I would recommend your electric and double bass all-rounder players give this a try.
This is a long-lasting, easy to use product which is of excellent quality. It is, in fact, by far my favourite rosin. I play Scottish traditional fiddle and this provides the reliable bite which I need to play in that style, the packaging stops it from fracturing and extends its useful life to a point where even in terms of raw cost, it's better value than cheaper rosin. This is what I'm going to buy for as long as its available.
Bought the dark one for my little son's cello and bought the light one for my elder son's violin. The rosins both are far better than the ones they had. It is easy to apply to rosin and both of the rosins have good grip which makes the sound much better. The case protects the rosin very well. Hope this time the rosin can last long. Very happy with this purchase.
I've bought this previously and will keep doing so. I believe it's advertised for cello but it's just as good for violin. The appearance of the dark rosin is superb, although not why you should buy it, but fortunately, it performs excellently too. Have no problems with applying it from the container. A big benefit of this particular rosin is the low dust, it's more pleasant to use as a result, less cleaning of the violin. The fact it comes in a closable container is a real bonus for storage and carriage. Obviously, there is a price upscale but will never go back to a cheap rosin.
My son loved using this rosin, and it made the quality of sound better. (Grade 7 on a Stentor Student II violin). It suits the slight colder climate we have in Ireland as it doesn't get sticky at all. He like that it was in a hard case, so if he dropped it (which he does sometimes), it would less likely shatter. Unfortunately, this and his violin got stolen recently, so can't review in how long lasting it is.
