Recently received the Wave+ as a gift, love it, so decided to get the Bit Driver Extender and Bit Kit to complete everything. The first thing I noticed on the Bit Kit was it was made in Taiwan which I thought was unusual as Leatherman is an American product but apart from that loved all the bits and the holders they came in and could not wait to try them out.......this is where I experienced the first disappointment. Using the 4mm Allen Key Bit to try to undo a small bolt on a bed frame, the Bit started to "round" off on the edge as the bolt was very tight, worried that I would damage the bit further I resorted to a normal Allen Key to complete the job.....not impressed. I have also spent a few days assembling various self-assembly bits of furniture and have noticed a lot of "wear" marks on various Philips and Pozi drive bits. I think the problem is down to the fact the bits were manufactured in Taiwan and the metal is softer, something I have experience before in my years in engineering. To conclude my review......great bit of kit to have, slightly expensive, let down by eastern quality.
For what they are, these are good bits. The plastic holder they come in is a bit fiddly and doesn't really make them easy to carry around with you (I think they might be designed to fit in a Leatherman holster which I don't have perhaps) and the bits themselves are the flattened ones like in all Leatherman knives. I worry that the thin bit-heads are more likely to shear screw heads than full size ones. They work fine for most emergency use, but obviously if you can bring a full-size bit driver to the job, you'd be better off with that instead.
I bought these to increase the functionality of my Leatherman. They certainly do that but I regret buying both them and the Leatherman. There’s no doubt the Leatheryman is a cracking piece of kit (and these help) but something more heavy duty would have, on reflection, been a better choice.
Some good bits, not sure many of them will ever get used and it doesn't come with another bit that originally came with my wave with a Philips on one side and flat on the other so I've had to resort to having two Philips bits
Title says it all. Most of these you'll never use, star and block type drivers I've seldom even see fittings I could use them with however this does have a few additional sizes of the common flat/philips types which are quite handy.
Bottom line - Most bits are largely useless, only worth it for the alternate sized flat/philips heads for 99% of people
Got the attachments I need but two minor irritations.... Holders do not easily fit into leather pouch supplied with Surge Multi tool. Secondly, no way to attach micro drill bit to multi tool. That aside its what I needed really!
