4.0 out of 5 stars Not as Pictured. But close enough I guess...

First day, feels great paired with the suggested Timberland insoles.
The leather used in the Seller's pictures is misleading. There is no smooth grain leather on the front toe area. It's all the same throughout. The color is also dark like the back.
If you want a better idea of what you will receive, take a look at Timberland's 47015 Titan Soft-Toe, also on Amazon. That is exactly what this shoe looks like in color and leather appearance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly comfortable
Reviewed in the United States on 23 February 2022
Size: 7.5 US WideColour: BlackVerified Purchase
I have a wide foot coupled with a very high instep. I good, tough oxford for outdoor work and hiking is pretty much impossible to find for my foot in women’s shoes. The only exception in the past has been the Propet Snow Walker - a waterproof oxford ankle boot that was fantastically comfortable and warm. But, those have been discontinued so I started my hunt. Because of my very wide foot, I often have to turn to men’s shoes, but oxfords are very hard to find.

Well, I came upon this shoe while searching Timberland’s site. I wanted black and needed a 7.5 in wide (I usually wear a 9-9.5 X-wide in women’s shoes). I was a little hesitant about the alloy toe as I was afraid the shoe would be impossibly stiff and clunky to wear. I remember my husband’s steel-toe shoes from his days in P&G’s paper factory in Pennsylvania - those were total clunkers and so clumsy for him to wear. Getting my foot in was a little snug, but once I had them on and tied, what a pleasant surprise! Unlike so many men’s shoes, these do not press down on my instep, the toe box provides a good fit without cramming my toes together, and they were comfortable to walk in right out of the box. I only wish the black came in X-Wide like the oiled brown ones do. These are fine, but extra width is always appreciated by my oddball feet. I haven’t gotten outside yet in these, but have been wearing them around the house for 6 hours now - up and down stairs, sitting, standing, moving from room to room - and they feel as comfortable as my running shoes (just stiffer in the toe box). These are certainly keepers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Durable safety shoe; but they are heavy!

I work in an office building, but I spend lots of time walking outdoors at the beginning and end of my shifts. I wear out a typical pair of office shoes in 2 months. So I need something more durable. And I sometimes visit work sites where safety toe is required. Enter work oxfords... I bought this pair of Timberland shoes to replace a cheaper pair of work shoes I had worn out after several years. So far so good after a few months. It takes a little bit of time to break them in like a good pair of boots. They are plenty durable enough. The safety toe is reassurance when I am out on sites. However they are much heavier than what I am used to wearing! That's the price to pay for safety and durability I guess.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking, comfortable fit, just too heavy

Fit comfortably but in my case they are just too heavy. They weigh 4.2 pounds for the pair, so knocked off one star. But not sure that is really fair, since these are safety toed shoes. Definitely better than the boots I used to wear. Since I don't really need safety toed now, I prefer lighter shoes. These are a size 14 XW so not sure if that added to the overall weight. I do a lot of walking during the work day and have an old leg injury that aches at the end of the day no matter what shoes I wear. While my feet felt good at the end of the day, the extra weight took its toll on my leg. They are nice looking too. I just can't wear everyday. Will save for those days when I don't expect to put in the walking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great shoes, but...

Because these were available at company shoe store where I worked, I've owned maybe 6 pairs before retiring. Obviously I like them because I bought a pair off Amazon after retiring.
However, I will say the sole has a tendency to break all the way across, directly below where the safety toe ends. At least one of almost all pairs I've had broke across the sole. You can still wear them, but after they break, the safety toe will pinch if you are down on your knees and the toe of the shoe gets flexed strongly.
Otherwise, they are really comfortable, easy wearing safety shoes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheaper alternative to Red Wings, but not quite as well made
Reviewed in the United States on 21 October 2014

Overall, these are pretty good shoes. I paid just a shade under 100 for them, and I feel they are worth it. If you're familiar with Red Wings pricing, you'll know that these are about half of what similar style RW would cost.

I opted for these because I didn't want to spend 200 on a pair that isn't going to get quite the same workout as my Red Wings - these are for work around the lab and office, but nothing as strenuous as walking around a plant for 8 hours a day. The Red Wings have always been good to me there, but they're so dang expensive.

All in all, these are a good buy. They are quite comfortable, I've had no issues wearing them all day and feeling just fine. The one downside is that the leather is clearly a lower quality than my Red Wings - it's a bit rougher and scuffs / cuts much easier. While it seems thick enough to withstand normal wear and tear, I worry about the longevity of the leather.

Still, for half the price of what I normally pay, I guess they're pretty good.

They did run a bit large for me - I normally wear a 15 and the 15 in these was too big. I stepped down to a 14 and they're pretty good, so I'd say they run about one half to one full size larger.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good shoe

The shoes are good looking enough to wear with Khakis and a dress shirt. The leather does scuff easily, maybe some boot oil will help. I found the insole wasn't quite supportive enough, but I generally tend to use custom insoles anyway, so that fixed that issue. The biggest complaint I have is that the shoelaces are too slippery and loosen over time despite trying to tie them as tight as possible. Perhaps that will fix itself with some use. Overall I am pleased.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice everyday mid-ankle boot
Reviewed in the United States on 1 April 2015

I'm an engineer who occasionally visits the shop and outside plants. I basically where these everywhere: office, shop, camping, out to dinner, etc.

These are my third pair of these shoes. I used to buy them locally at Work World, but they no longer carry them. I accidentally ordered the Timberland PRO Men's Titan Comp Toe Oxford Black Work Shoe and had to return them. They are very similar, but the Work Shoe is less of a boot (so they feel less secure on the ankle) and do not have the metal grommets for the laces as these do.

My first pair were replaced because after two years I marred the toes so much that my wife hated them. The second pair split on the right sole after two years. The sole split is a common failure point as I've noticed in other reviews.

These are definitely made differently than my last two pairs, but they are the same design/materials. I would suspect that a different manufacturing facility is making these now and small adjustments were made to accommodate new equipment and/or reduce cost.

The toes do mar very easily. So don't expect them to look great for very long. A little polish helps, but the leather will chip. No amount of polish will remove the chipped leather. I already have a small tear on the left shoe after two weeks.

Also, the insoles will start falling apart after a year. Mine usually have holes where the toes are. These can be replaced, but I've never bothered since the comfort did not diminish much and the only result was a few torn socks.

These will set off a metal detector. When you are going through an international airport that does not require you to remove you shoes, remove them anyways.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice-looking; scuffs easy

This was one of three pairs of shoes I purchased at the same time. The others were a workout shoe (The New Balance Men's MX20 Minimus Training Shoe at
amazon.com/New-Balance-MX20-Minimus-Training/dp/B00DOEQRA6/) and a work shoe (The Timberland PRO Men's 61009 Mudsill Low Steel Toe Oxford,Blue/Blue at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XF2OKQ). I bought each in 14 Wide (this is sometimes called "2E"). The Oxford was for the office, the Minimus for working out, and the work shoe was for a sturdy sneaker and walking shoe.

These shoes are far more comfortable than the office shoe I had before and had plenty of room for a Dr. Scholl's insert for more padding. I like them very much but, like many dress shoes, they scuff easily — on the brake pedal of the car, for instance. Still a good shine and some TLC should keep them nice enough for some time.

They aren't a "dress" shoe, per se, but more of a standard office shoe that you can wear with just about any kind of khaki, twill, or dress slacks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Red Wing replacement
Reviewed in the United States on 23 March 2021

Was looking for a shoe which was comparable to the Red Wing 6633 King Toe. I have a hard to fit foot and the Red Wing was the only shoe that was comfortable to be in all day. Found these and I'm very happy with them and will buy another pair when they wear out. Break in time was quicker, but this is due to the leather not being as thick. The sole, while it seems it's durable, is not as nice as on the Red Wing. Not worried, seems like these things will do just fine. So happy I found a replacement.
