Some might say that this music is derivative but I prefer to think that it is influenced by many different composers with enough originality to make it interesting. I bought the CD for Lux Aurumque, which is very beautiful and reminds me of Vaughan Williams' Mass In G Minor at times. However, there are other very attractive offerings and the whole is beautifully performed. Could we have a truly original voice in the modern classical genre here?
Bought after hearing "Leonardo dreams of his flying machine" on radio. Stunning voices, gorgeous clashing chords. Hear something new every time I listen. Will be buying another album from this composer.
One of the songs from this CD just happened to be playing one morning on the radio as I drove my kids to school. We were mesmerised, stopped the car and listened in silence till the end, at which point I grabbed pen and paper to write down the title and ordered this. We have not been disappointed. Played it on a loop over Christmas and have continued to love it since. Simply beautiful.
Our choir sang the moving Seal's Lullaby last year and we watched the Prom's performance of Deep Field. Whittaker is a wonderful composer and this is a great sample of some of his other music performed by his own choir.
