It works and cleans easy however it lost a star because I noticed hot zones where the potato chips that I was making would cook and burn faster than other areas (i.e. the very center).
If you were to mark the top chip maker out into 3 zones (center, middle, and outer ring) they cook as ffollow: Center - Cooks first and can burn; Middle - Cooks last and potato can still be chewy even though Outer Ring is crisp; Outer Ring - Cooks faster than the Middle, but slower than the Center.
I am not sure if this is just my microwave. I use a over the range microwave with a rotating glass plate on high power for about 5 minutes for little yellow potato slices and 4.5 minutes for little red potato slices. I still have to try little brown potato slices, but I am guessing they will take even less time to make in the microwave. I only ever use one tray at a time in the microwave because I think it would make the cooking time even longer then already is. I hope this info helps others.
I had bought 1 top chips maker and really liked it, but found it took quite some time to have a small bowl completed. I then purchased 2 more stacks, what a big big waste of money. They don't stay stacked, you have to switch the Top Chips Maker around to make sure they all crisp equally or else the bottom tray has badly burnt chips while the top trays are still almost raw. I seriously wish i could get reimbursed!
Remember to use a lower power setting for best results. I make tortilla chips from tortillas, 2-2:30 on 70% on a 1000W microwave, comes out like thin pita chips. Spray with some oil and salt for added flavor
Not impressed. Cooking time was very long and potatoes were still soggy. I think the steam from the tray(s) underneath just filter into the above tray and they can't get crisp. I bought these to save time and to not put such a workload on the microwave when I had to do it 8-10 with a single tray.
