I recently bought a new rear derailleur for my road bike which had a longer cage which meant the existing cable wasn't long enough and I needed a new one. This is a like for like replacement for the one I had, just make sure you buy some decent cable cutters and don't attempt to use the pair of "wire snips" that you already have lying around in your toolbox. If you don't use the right cutting tool you will crush the outer cable housing causing friction and you will also crush and fray the ends of the cable itself.
At a stretch, I am a below average DIY bicycle mechanic who avoids anything more more complicated than assembling the kids bikes for Christmas. My daughters bike needed a replacement gear cable and this product was perfect. I matched the correct one by searching for the bike and a 2 minute youtube video gave me the confidence to give it a shot. Months later and it's holding just fine.
I bought this to replace a handbrake cable on my recumbent trike, it came with the end bits, to prevent the freying of the cable, once cut. I already have a crimping tool, for electrical connections, so I could fit it on. As there's 2 cables in the pack, I've got a spare in case a break cable goes.
Doesn't contain the ends that go to a small tube that the Duraace kit does but guess that is what you get for the cheaper kit. Had everything I needed to replace gear cables ... Make sure you have some decent (good) cutters and a small pick.
Although not tested for functionality yet the only downside so far has been the difficulty in cutting the outer to length. It’s very tough and you need some heavy duty wire cutters. Plenty of extra length included but I needed to take some end pieces off the old cables as there weren’t enough supplied for my particular set up.
