It took me three years to twig that the oddly-shaped slot in my corporate drone-issue HP Elitebook is a DisplayPort socket, and that it could function as an HDMI interface with the right adaptor. This is that adaptor and I'm very pleased with it, not least because - in combination with a 1m HDMI cable - it makes a lightweight travelling kit that allows me to use just about any hotel-room TV as a big monitor. Much less bulky than a VGA cable, and easier to connect - with the bonus that I can use the TV's speakers for laptop content as well as its display.
My HP monitor at work and the LG one I use at home both have power-saving features that work when connected over HDMI but not VGA, so it's doing a little to reduce my electricity bill too.
works fine for me with Dell Latitude E4500 and Samsung monitor at 1920x1080. Initially I thought it wasn't working because there were serious glitches and colour issues on the display. But i found it was because of bad connections on the HDMI socket side. Unplugging and replugging the HDMI cable solved the issue.
I bought it to replace a similar device that is rigid and which after less than a year had broken physically so that the DisplayPort connector was loose. I am hopeful that having the adaptor in a flexible cable will avoid that problem.
